He spoke in a firm but friendly manner. "If you think you want this job then I am not certain if it is for you. He followed that statement up with "But if you know you are the right duck for the job then I would like you to start training tomorrow."

I left the office, headed down the street to the nearest newspaper stand looking for a swap sheet advertising apartments for rent.

I immediately found a vacant apartment that I adored, and for the right price too.

Preferably one that was already nicely furnished.

Yes, well furnished with a beautiful view from the balcony. The ocean breeze in the morning is intoxicating.

But I must not let it mesmerize me as I have a new job to start in the morning.

Lucky me, a new job, a new apartment, the only thing missing is the other duck.

Listening to the waves off of Lake Michigan just put me right to sleep, zeus in hand.

Sleep is what I need since I'm starting my new job, no time to think about the missing duck just yet.

I tossed and turned during the night due to the anticipation of the exciting day ahead of me.

hate when that happens! But at least I had the coffee maker set to brew for the morning..

I woke up to the sound of my cell alarm tone with the sweet sound of the birds chirping along nearly in harmony.

I sat with a cup of coffee and a vape before I showered and headed off to my first day on the job.

I walked to work with a skip in my step...Oh happy day.

Metaphorically speaking of course, my leg still ached as if still there. But none of that mattered, things were looking up.

Things are definitely looking up now. The job of my dreams, a beautiful apartment. I whistled a happy tune as I walked...

...into my corner office. Moments later Mr. Smilin walked into my office, "Good morning, ready to get to work?" To which I emphatically responded, "born ready Hank!" "Well good," Hank retorted, "we have a pressing assignment which is in desperate need of your expertise." Hank Smilin proceeded to brief me on a rare species of Anas Platyrhynchos which had been spotted in the southern US, suggesting a species wide alteration in their migratory patterns. "Don't get to settled in," Hank pointed out, "you're on the next flight to the Ozarks to speak with a young lady who discovered this animal."

The Ozarks huh I said to myself. I was just getting settled into Chicago. Well since my flight was so soon I went home and packed some things for the trip. Since I found out from experience that the airport so readily loses luggage I crammed what I could into my carry on luggage and included my blue and hot pink Zeus for spares and carried my green one in my pocket...

Fortunately this time was completely different, "what a difference first-class makes," I mumbled as I plopped down in the cushy seat. It was just a short hop to SGF airport and then a quick trip down Rt. 13 to Dogwood Canyon Nature Park outside of Branson where the creature was spotted. "I'll meet up with the witness there," I thought as I leaned back and called the stewardess for a bourbon on the rocks.
