I was watching a youtube video for a DIY epipe and an older gentleman was filming the video. I was reading the comments and I saw a very obviously young kid post saying "wow youre so old"...now I am young as well but I don't understand disrespect to someone who has more life experience than you. I guess it was just how I was raised (and many others) to respect someone with more experience and take what they say as a learning experience. I get so tired of...idiots...just idiots to put it nicely. You have to wonder how they got the attitude they have, and this isn't just the internet - I see it in real life too. Actually the other month I saw a group of kids making fun of an elderly couple walking down the street, i'm a pretty big (wide and average height with some muscle) so I walked up to them and confronted them about it...they walked away. Sorry I just really needed to vent. Would love to see more respect in the world!!!! But alas that is just a wish and I will never see that happen.

I'm 24 and love my elders. when I was little I would sit and listen to my neighbor's stories instead of going outside to play. I was 17 when I started to stay with her on the weekends. She was 98 and needed someone there around the clock. My aunt stayed there the rest of the week but on the weekends she went to her mothers(my Nanny's) I took care of her for 2 and a half years. I could never understand anyone who couldn't respect their elders. Some folk's just ain't got no raisin' (yeah, I know about the grammar, but hey I'm southern and it fits)

I'd have to agree, I wish there was more respect for everyone, but especially the elderly.

Funny how too many youngsters don't think they will ever get old.....their time's coming. :p

Also being a southerner, I was raised to respect my elders. Now I'm one of them! Nice to see there are some young folks that do still respect others, whether elderly or not. Thank you for that. :toast:

Please bear with me with this story it is a bit long:

Back in the days when generations resided in the same home there was a family consisting of a very elderly Grandfather and the son and daughter in law with a young grandchild. The grandfather was quite up there in years with many maladies. I am sure today he would be "labeled" as Alzheimer or Dementia afflicted. When dining he would often knock or drop the dishes causing them to break on the floor. Mom solved the problem with a large wooden bowel and spoon. All of Grandpa's meals were then served in that manner. Time passed by and so did Grandpa. Quite a while after Grandpa had passed Mom was in the young daughter's room. Tucked away she discovered the wooden bowel and spoon. Thinking it was a rather odd thing to save she confronted the daughter. "Why did you keep Grandpa's wooden bowel and spoon"? Without hesitation the daughter replied "I am saving it for you".
