Raptor and Squid Clearomizer Questions

Vapor Geek is offering one new clearomizer for free this weekend. Does anyone know anything about the 6ml Raptor tank Clearomizer?

There is also a Squid Clearomizer which is currently out of stock, but they will probably get it before too long. Anyone have any experience with these?

I'll have the squid shortly after she gets them. (Fun fact: I suggested that name to her, she went with it. :D) The Raptor I have coming is a new version; I have the old version she sent me and it works pretty well but won't fit on some eGo devices -- not all eGos can take the aesthetic ring, and not all eGos have the same eGo threading so, at least for the old version, they may or may not work. I'll see how the new version compares when it arrives early next week.

The Squid looks like the rebuildable Vivi, has anyone seen one to confirm that?

It isn't rebuildable from what I've seen of the pictures -- not by design anyway, but it does have replaceable heads like the Vivi, but it uses an isolated atomizer design, sort of like a Genesis but using two long silica wicks where each end pokes through four holes in the floor of the atomizer chamber. It looks like an interesting design, but being of CE2 roots the real question is whether it can keep up with wicking while lacking the ability to bathe the tops of the wicks in juice with a tip like you normally need to do.

My money is on no. Would it be possible to rig it up with a wick like a Genesis or is that just stupid. My money is on i am stupid.

Well, it may work. The wicks appear to be fairly thick -- a good 3mm, anyway, which is good for wicking, and there are four channels for juice to flow (both ends of two wicks), so the possibility is there.

As for making Genny wicks, probably not likely, or at least, not easily, and not two of them. The main problem here is that you have to bend the mesh to a 45° angle on each side, and you have to do it in such a way that it maintains its cylindrical shape, or else you get creases that partially choke off the juice flow. The trick to good wicking with mesh is that you need to give the juice a good latticework of holes so that capillary action can do its thing, and when you introduce creases, you compress that lattice and reduce the surface area juice has to cling to. It's probably possible to do this by bending the wicks on a paperclip, but you'd have to do it in flame to allow the mesh to stretch on the outside of the bend, and you'd have to do it slowly so it doesn't break. No easy task, that.

What is the advantage to having a separate chamber like that, over a single chamber vivi?

No leaking. By separating the juice reservoir from the atomizer you don't need to create fiddly seal systems that don't work for all thicknesses of juice. But the caveat is that you then have to make sure there is an ample channel for juice to climb up to the coil. The two long wicks in the Squid Tank may or may not be sufficient to deal with this -- we'll have to see.

Well i guess i just have to buy a Genesis then :D

I got my raptor this week, ordered 4, one of which is free. I just love it. 6 ml for my favorite e-liquid, menthol. It looks a little odd on the ego-battery as it is wider than the battery, but it vapes like a charm and the throat hit is great. They are somewhat like regular clearomizers but what I have noticed is that the juice doesn't get darker when vaping for awhile. They are fairly LR so I just use my regular ego batteries or have my twist turned down. I highly recommend these for anyone who likes to use the same juice. I'll use my other clearomizers and cartridges that hold less juices to change flavors but use these big ones for the ones I vape more often.

Also they are easy to take apart so cleaning should be a breeze. Plus the parts are all replaceable so you don't have to purchase the whole thing again if they wear out or burn out.
