Rayon/Single Coil Tastes like burnt hair/wet dog?

I have single coil build - 28g kanthal, 7 wraps, 1.5 ish ohms, also had another one 2mm 28g, 6-7 wraps at 1.1ohm. I'm using Rayon, supposed to be good stuff. But I can barely get the stupid stuff into the coil for one.. and 2 it really tastes gross. Like wet dog. I tried my best to get it in there as much as I could with the rayon, but it thins out, and it keeps stranding apart when I put it in, tried dabbing it with my spit and everything, and twisting, but just isn't enough.

Is this why it's so gross, and I can only get like 2 hits off of it? It's at 12 watts, if I go any higher, it will be SUPER burnt. (Using a mvp 20 watt and dark horse rda).
Also getting in the mail a MVP 60 watt tomorrow which will allow me to do sub ohm (then I can parallel wrap to make it a "bigger gauge" wire. ) I don't know. This Rayon thing. Suggestions?

The Japanese cotton you've ordered will probably be easier for you , it was for me in getting " wick ready pieces "

While your waiting for it for the rayon not sure how yours comes , mine came in 1 meter lengths about 1/2 an inch in diameter.

Cut off a section say three inches then try and tease a strip of it away , then can gently roll it and twist one end and thread through coil.
If its too thick or too thin then next time tease away more or less.

I had issues when I first started using it getting the correct amount to thread through the coil. Its not as cushiony as the kgd.

Well I'm thinking I don't have enough in the coil, and I really can't get very much in there, I've tried, for a long time. And get super irritated. Lol.

I like my wicks to be in contact with all of the inside of the coil.
When the wick ends go down to the deck of your atomiser you still want the elbows of the wick to be touching the inside of the coil.

Yeah it's mostly difficult getting a tip at the end and getting it through without it all just breaking apart or separating

Your strip could be to thick , want it to thread through intact , with some resistance , not loose so you can pull it through with one hand.

I have tried a thin one, and a thick one both. Thin one is just WAY too thin, there's a gap in the coil. Probably why it's so dry and burnt. Thick ones won't even go thru

Sure it will be easier when using something like koh gen doh Japanese cotton pads.

With those you cut strips and thread them through and the cotton seems more manageable.

I had the same issue with the rayon when I first used it.
Since have used the kgd Japanese cotton pads and find them much easier to work with.

Though I did use some rayon recently to wick two attys I wanted to play around with and not waste some kgd on and I managed to get the wicks right first time.

See how your new cotton goes when it comes in and post about it.:)

wicking with rayon requires a couple of steps.... cut a length about 2-3 inches long, separate a section from the main clipping about as thick as a pencil ( while puffy), lay section in palm and roll it ( like you are trying to make a slender log out of putty), this compresses the rayon, Twist one end of the "log" into a point and insert into coil. Pull wick thru coil, ( there should be a light tension, just enuf where you have to pull gently), position wick evenly in coil, cut off excess wick to fit atty.... the key is to have just enuf wick to allow for juice transfer, too much and it chokes off the flow of juice and you get dry hits, too little and the vape is minimal and eventually the wick will melt in half....

I try rolling it , it just seems to kind of bust apart, and I don't even use that thick. Stuff doesn't look like how I've seen it in videos. It stays rolled but as soon as it starts to go in it like breaks apart almost, into sections, tiny sections, the wic i usually roll is the size of a pencil maybe less

People have their way of preparing the cotton pads.
Some use them as they are some take the very outer layers off.

I like to take the two outer layers off.

They come off with a bit of teasing.

Cut the strips from the pads along the longest length , pads should be rectangle.
The fibres run along the longest length of the pads.

I actually cut mine in half first from one short length to the next to get two pieces and then cut strips off with the grain.
Find that way I don't have to waste so much when I make a wick and trim it. though most people just take the whole pas and cut strips from it.
