How do i fix Protank 2 burnt taste? I use an MVP V2 with the Voltage/Watts to match the coils I'm using but still get the burnt taste.I use the standard KangerTech 2.0 coils and I let it sit in the E-juice (50/50 blend) for 10 min and every couple of minutes I prime it but still burnt taste. I have already bought new coils with the same result any help would be appreciated.

2 Things

First - wicks need to get going(break in) Hitting them Hot will in most cases boil off the little e-liquid that is on the wicks and start charring it. Starting at a lower power for 1/4-1/2 tank or so on a new wick is a good way to give them time to fully saturate and work properly.
A little trick that helps is Wet the wick with water before installing the coil head. Water is thin and penetrates/loosens the wick faster. First draws will be light until water evaporates.

Second - Purchase an Aerotank Airflow Base - this is an air control base that will change the way air is drawn through the tank. It can greatly improve function.
Kanger Airflow Control Valve - Protank II, Protank 3, Aerotank

Try turning watts down to 5. Amount of vape may be low but burnt taste will prob go away. Then slowly increase your watts untill you find the sweet spot for that partcular juice.
Yeah, I could only use those stock kanger heads with the lowest settings on the mvp. The vw only goes down to 6 watts but even that was too much for some juices. I think you can go lower when it's in vv mode but I'm not sure, I usually tried for about 5 watts in vv and that usually worked good for 50/50 liquids.

Besides lowering the power, you could also try higher pg juices. Or higher resistance coils. Or rebuild the coils with cotton wicks. That's what I do with my protank heads and they work much better.

Here's a chart showing you how voltage and resistance affects wattage. Higher wattage = more chance of a burnt taste.

I love the PT2's and they are my daily drivers, but I re-wick mine with Peaches & Cream cotton yarn. Stock coils, just re-wicked with cotton and no more burnt taste ever. I pre boil the yarn in distilled water prior to use. It is a perfect fit for the stock coils, easy to feed through if you wind a little bit of Teflon tape on the end ( this may take some practice) but it is really worth the effort. A plus is that if you pull the old wick, dry burn the coil, rinse it out, and re-wick at every fill or every other fill depending on how much your juice tends to gunk up you coils, they will last a very long time. It took me a little while and some practice to get the hang of this, and it sounds more complicated than it really is. I vape a lot, and toss like one or two coils a month now doing this routine with my Protanks.

P.S. You can practice on the old coils first, hopefully you have saved some of them...

Good luck William! And if at first you don't succeed, keep trying, it will be worth it. One piece of gear that is essential for me is to use either a T3 or Evod base to hold the coil when pulling off the chimney, and working on it. It gives you a sturdy base, and a good grip while allowing full visibility of the coil.

Yeah, rebuilding coils in the PT2 is the way to go if you are so inclined. It is really easy to do, and you get some serious improvements over the crappy stock Kanger coils. Failing that, primer puff every so often, and run the coils at 7W or below. Unfortunately, Kanger has some serious issues with QC in regards to their coils. Good luck.

Stock kanger coils just suck. I rebuild mine and am much happier. The nice tight coils I make performs so much better. I tried cotton but kept getting wet tshirt in my juice, so following a suggetion from somewhere in here went to Rayon. With the rayon and redone coil my protank 2 works better than my stock protank 3 dual coil.

Hi everyone just an update to all the suggestions to fix my protank 2 burnt taste. 1st i tried Wakefulpanda "Flip the cap suggestions" and it worked great! seemed to fix the problem but i got curious and bought the Kanger Airflow Control Valve - Protank II, Protank 3, Aerotank suggested by crxess and played around with the valve with the top cap flipped back but i started to have flooding issues so i loosed up the draw and so far it works great i know the Protank 2 was not designed for air flow control so i had a lot of problems with it at first but when i figured it out works like a charm. i am currently trying to rebuild coils as suggested by coalyard and USMCotaku this is taking alot longer to do because this is my first shot at rebuilding coils. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

wet linen flavor comes from using a tad too much cotton. Cotton expands when wet. IMHO the flavor can't be beat once you get the hang of how much to use. Since its pretty cheap, doesn't hurt to experiment till you get it down

I've been rebuilding my PT heads for over a year now. You twist just enough cotton to slide back and forth in the coil with very little resistance, once you get the hang of how much cotton to put in, your vape experience will improve. Instead of rebuilding, just remove the wicking out of a new stock head, realign all the wraps so they are equal distance apart and then replace it with cotton.
