RBA on Provari v1 (lower amp limit)?

I've been doing too much research on RBAs and I was about to purchase a RSST, but then I realized that I might be in for some trouble when it comes to finding the proper resistance using kanthal wire.

As you may know, the Provari v1 has a 2.5amp limit (instead of 3.5 on the updated models). I've had trouble using a 1.7ohm atty at anything above 3.5v, so I seriously doubt that same a similar ohm rba will do any better.

Is anyone succesfully running a Provari v1 with their rba?

Thanks.

You should be able to run that 1.7ohm coil right up to 4.2V without issue on a v1 provari. Mine is still v1 and does that just fine.

I ran the IGO-L on my provari for quite a while, wrapping coils at right around 1.8ohms. I'm a ~10 watt vaper anyway, so it worked well for me. But no, you won't be pushing huge wattage on a v1. I've also used the euforia (penelope clone) quite a bit with a 1.8ohm coil on the provari.

How funny, I was just reading your posts on "Who prefers a LR RBA setup?". Very informative stuff.

What I'm getting is that LR on a RBA is not the same as LR on, let's say, a cartomizer. If you managed 10w than I should be good, my sweet spot is around 9 - but then again I've never tired an RBA before.

Btw - I want to go with SS Mesh and Kanthal with my RSST. Any reason not to go with 30ga kanthal and 500 SS mesh?

30 ga with 5 wraps should put you at the 2ish ohm range, that sould be fine with the V1 giving a good range.

Theoretically, you can run a 1.7 ohm coil on a V1 Provari up to about 4.2 volts. However, even at 4.2 volts, your wattage will only be about 10.6 watts, which is a bit low for a genesis type RBA. You'd be better off, and have more range, if you kept your coil resistance above 2.3 ohms.
Another option is to send your Provari to Provape for upgrade to V2. The cost is $20. Turnaround time is about a week.

Thanks guys, yes my goal is to run it above 2.0 ohm

Rule62 - I'm trying to understand the logic. So 2.3 ohms is really the MAX resistance I can handle on a Provari v1, if I want to have wattage range up to 14w? Correct? I'm guessing higher wattage on a RBA is not the same (experience) as a traditional atomizer?

You could go up to about 2.5 ohms, which would give you about 14.5 watts at 6.0 volts. You may not necessarily want to vape at 14.5 watts; but at least the option is there.
Most people find that they vape at considerably higher watts with genesis type RBAs, than they do with conventional atomizers.

like rule had mentioned with the v-1 provari and a coil in the 2.5 range @ 6 volts puts you close to the 2.5 amp limit and around 14 watts. the wire needed for this would be 32g on a regular 1/8 wick that works in the rsst, not sure if 30g would work because it would take quite a number of wraps, although I suppose if you almost make them touch you might be able to get it to work, but usually on a coil of that resistance 32g is the standard. now using 32g wire at 6v might make some juices taste burnt because of the heat generated at the wick from such a thin wire. 14 watts with 32g wire is not the same as 14 watts with 28g wire,(which is unobtainable with the v-1) so you just have to try it and see. you might just like this v-1 at 10 watts or 11 watts but if you feel like the 14 watt range is for you you might be stuck to 32g wire, and imo this might not produce the best flavors from your juice.

Alright well I asked the shipper to switch it to 32g instead, but it might not happen. Either way I'll have some tinkering to do.

well if you get the 30g, which imo is just a better wire, I would say do a max of 7 wraps, for one this may be as much as you can get and two, too many wraps may just take to long for the wick to heat up. then just take it from there, although I would guess that this wont get you as high as 2.5Ω and 14 watts, it may be at a desirable wattage that is satisfying.
