I am new to vaping (2 weeks into it) and I am ok with my protank setup, but I still feel like I want more, thicker vapor. From what I have read, an rba is the way to go. Can anyone recommend a good, low cost pyrex tank-style (not dripper) RBA that will not leak when inverted? Forgive me if this has already been answered, I have tried searching in many different ways with no good results. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure of one that fits all that criteria. A Kayfun Lite is a protank style vape (but richer tasting), is simple to work on, won't leak and is stainless with a plexi window but its not low cost.

If you want low cost, start by trying to rebuild the Protank coils to your liking. That will give you some experience at coil building and help you decide if you want to take the next step up.

All the Genesis-style RBA's will leak at least a little if not kept vertical. This pretty much limits their use for home, unless you come up with a way to keep your mod vertical at all times.

Many recommend the RSST as a first RBA. Another popular model is the AGA-T2 with pyrex tank. I have two of these.

I highly recommend this blog I wrote for vapors looking to try their first RBA.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely try this before spending money on a rebuildable. I have Kanthal and silica wick on order and I've been watching every YouTube tutorial I can find.

Great beginers rba is smoktech rsst FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

You will also need 400 or 500# stainless steel mesh (about 4x4cm) and kanthal a1 30/31 awg (i recommend at least 0.22-0.25 mm thickness) 25 meters spool. :)

IMPORTANT:

1. Oxidizing the wick is crucial. Do it 3-4 times and with juice.
2. You can make perfect coil (perfect wraps) with help of a round rod/screwdriver and then insert the wick.
3. Wire has to touch the wick all the way but not too tight/loose.

I like to do it that way:

1. Make a wick , oxidize it well , (optional with the silica/ecowool inside the wick)
2. Make a perfect coil, twist the wick inside the coil
3. Put thw wick with the coil into genesis rba
4. Tight down the wire on both posts (- and +)
5. Remove the wick with twisting it
6. Do some dry burns on the coil so it glows nicely , voltage about 3.5V
7. Insert the wick and twist it at the top a little, so it become a little wider and ensures the perfect fit to coil
8. Check the resistance with protected mod like itaste svd, evic, vamo... and set the voltage/wattage accordingly. http://www.google.si/imgres?imgurl=...qw4UqmsDc3Isgb7jYHoBA&ved=0CEkQ9QEwAg&dur=348
9. Put juice in and wait a minute

It takes me about 5-10 minutes to build it from scratch on rsst.

please be sure to read up before attempting it. You can short an unprotected mod, breaking it, or the battery itself if its a hard-short. Have an ohm meter capable PV or an external ohm reader. Battery tester too. You cant let the battery's voltage drop too low or it wont recharge if your using it in a mech mod that doesnt warn you of it being drained and your coil ohm is too low to notice the drop. rebuilding is a privilege and a responsibility to keep safe! ENJOY! I recommend the AGA or the RSST as well and as long as you keep them upright, they usually wont spill into your pocket. Just don't unscrew the cap while your out or all the juice on the atty bed will splooge over your hand.

I agree with Haunted. The only thing is that those start to get pricey. If you do end up going drip (as a lot of people do), IGO-W. They work well with K101 and together cost ~$70. Good luck w the search.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to add more liquid every time you vape on a dripper? That was the only reason why I thought I didn't want one.

More or less...but not every time. What I mean is that a few drops lasts a while. Let's say that I start by dripping in 6 drops and then occasionally add two or three more - I can easily do that while watching TV in the evening, and it's easier to experiment with different flavors or test flavors or blend juices. Dripping has its advantages...though you're right. I can't walk out of the house with a drip atty without a bottle of juice. I've dripped at red lights and on the freeway, but for me dripping is most enjoyable in the evening while watching TV. A dripping atomizer is at least worth it for testing new juices, though, if nothing else...whether it's a disposable drip atomizer or a rebuildable one.

I should also mention that I recently watched a Grimm Green video where he said that rebuilding a Protank with a micro-coil and cotton build produces a vape experience similar to a sub-Ohm RBA setup. I'm definitely going to try that. I'm a bit leery about rebuilding a RDA with cotton, but using cotton on a bottom feeder makes a lot of sense to me because the cotton should always stay wet that way - with a rebuildable drip atty, there seems to be a higher change of it getting dry (at least in my mind) and burning up.

Thanks to everyone for the warnings and suggestions. I am not an expert, but I am comfortable with basic electronics. I even own a multimeter :). I guess my main issue is the leaking as I want to be able to vape away from home. Secondly, I like the idea of a Pyrex tank so I don't have to worry about what kind of juice I'm putting in it.

As far as I am concerned, switching from carto-tanks, silica or cotton clearos to stainless steel mesh setups (Bully clone RDA and AGA-T2) was nothing short of a revelation. Having only steel and glass in contact with the liquid the flavour you get isn't altered by tank leaching, burning fill or whatever they put in that silica that makes it taste gross and won't go away with dry burning. And torching clearo heads isn't an option (i know you can always rebuild them but I'd rather go for a genuine RDA). Thanks to all the wonderful people that put videos out there even the learning curve for a Genesis isn't as steep as i thought it would be (Andy has one of the best AGA-T2 tutorials and from my limited experience, the center post washer thingy does wonders on solving top coil leg issues). As far as the results go i dont think i would ever be able to go back to vivi novas or my old DCTs. Not to say that there aren't other great systems out there. But then the AGAs should be less than 30$ and, if they are built well, comparable to 2-300ish brand name gennys. Sure, they will leak when inverted but can be seated up straight on a table when connected to a mod or kept in a pocket in a vertical position (though 10" of glass and steel isn't the most comfortable thing to carry around). Given the low price, it's something worth to experiment on, even if only for home use.
