I've been vaping for a little over a year now. Currently I'm running a Smok XL Carto tank on a VV battery. I have a Vamo V5 in the mail as we speak. I would like to get into RBAs, but would really like to find one that also has a tank for the wick. The Kraken looks awesome, but I'm not sure if I should start there or something else. I would really appreciate some advice on where to start.

Thanks in advance!

A really good RBA to start with is the SMOK Tech Dripper, it may be tiny, but everything about is simple good and clean. The posts are easy to build on, as it has built in holes for the wire, the only complaint I have is the default airhole was too small, but I've been dripping long enough to know that the air hole by default is never large enough for what I'm after (I'm a cloud chaser).

To start with use 30ga, kanthal, it's easy to work with and hard to screw up.
Also, don't start building until you get an ohm reader; You don't want to blow your hand off. :)

the kraken is very easy to build. I would recommend going with cotton/silica instead of mesh for your first couple builds. start out slow, if you're building for the vamo aim for 2.5 ohm single coil as your first build. aim for 1.5 on a mech, DONT SUBOHM, not for your first build. get the concepts and troubleshooting down first. make sure you have a meter and good batteries, I personally will only use sony 30amp and AW high drains

The other unit that I was looking into was the Kayfun Russian 91%. I noticed in most of the videos that people were using cotton and were also doing the sub ohm thing. Can you use cotton without going sub ohm? I have a good meter- as I deal with low voltage electronics for a living. Cloud chasing is not my first priority. So the sub ohm concept really doesn't interest me at the moment.

Personally, I've never been fond of the 91%, just not for me, but read the reviews for anything you're considering, Youtube, ect. ect. You can never go wrong with a Kayfun, I've got the Lite Plus myself, very easy to build, and it really brings out flavour.

The Kraken is pretty good as well, once you get some experience with building, you can blow some massive clouds with it.

Cotton is mainly used purely because it's the easiest to wick imo, and it provides the best flavour, and a bag will last you quite a long time.

Another consideration is the RSST, fairly cheap, along the same lines as the Kraken minus the dual wickability.

for a first RBA, I would highly recomend a dripper with a big build deck, something like an Igo-L or Igo-W. There are many options out there for single coil & dual coil RDA's, my thing is, if you get one with 3 posts to build dual, get one that has adjustable airhole to allow you to build single and dual coils. DON'T ATTEMPT A DUAL COIL TILL YOU MASTER A SINGLE COIL.

Once you get the hang of building and can consistently build steady coils at a consistent resistance, then move to tanks. I have to go with a Kayfun Lite or any of its renditions for ease of building, flavor, vapor production and capacity.

Many different answers to that. I found the easiest for me was a 'Kayfun like' as I could get good results right away. I learned on AGT, with Kanthal 32G and Stainless Steel Mesh 400. It was tough to find that sweet spot.

The Kayfun ones use Kanthal and Silica or Cotton. The reason I found it easier was getting a good coil set up was fast and if I pulled that off I got great flavor. The mistakes I made was, wrapping coils to tight or leaving the silica too long. After I got that sorted I was astounded at the tasty results.

The other think holding me back from the Kayfun is how big the thing is.

I felt the same way. Do what I did and get the nano tank for it. (VapeRev has them).

AGT is a pain! I have one for my 14500 Bagua clone, and it's very temperamental and the wick hole is tiny, so it tends to starve.

Dont get lite. Get 3.1 or lite+. Adjustable airflow is important for many of us. I like it loose.

I second the adjustable airflow. I didn't mention it since most KFL clones have adjustable airflow. Didn't even think about the fact that some don't.

I keep my R91 almost fully open and my KFL clone without the screw.
