I've been wanting a copper atty to match my copper mods. Happened to notice last night that 3/4" fits very nice on an IGO W-3 base. Then found that the top of a smokey trident fit nicely once I decreased the ID by grooving it with a pipe cutter. Is it ok to use as is or should I put some kind of a finish inside to isolate the copper from juice/vapor?

I've made two copper sleeves now, one for an Origen, and another for a Gaia. Both of which don't have copper exposed on the inside. I would recommend getting an atty that has a sleeve that's not exposed on the inside.

Here are the two I did:

I like the two lines you made in the top though. How'd you do it?

Those look nice.
I believe the OP said he groves em with a pipe cutter, if I read that right. Which is really cool, cause it's low tech and looks great.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Which atties have copper posts? I've seen some homemade atties that someone just ran copper when it was popular (?) to wrap kanthal around silver wire, but that is about it. Now I do see a lot of brass in the chamber, be it posts or nuts and while brass is about 70+ % copper, hopefully no lead. To each their own.

I doubt there would be any adverse effects if you kept it clean. Copper can be toxic, but you would have to ingest a lot to even produce symptoms, a lot as in over the period of many years. Millions of chefs, cooks, moms, etc have been using copper cookware for centuries, and I dare say the human race is thriving. I know some are lined with tin or stainless, but not as a rule. Don't take my word for it though -
From Wikipedia:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) in drinking water is 1.3 milligrams per liter.[2][4] The MCL for copper is based on the expectation that a lifetime of consuming copper in water at this level is without adverse effect (gastrointestinal).

By the way - that RDA looks awesome...

I haven't noticed any copper taste from my copper cap and drip tip. Cap is C110 copper and tip is plated stainless. However, I have noticed that some juices remove the patina from the copper, which makes me think they could be slightly acidic. There is certainly a chance to inhale dissolved copper, but it is likely to be close to the amount of copper you would ingest by drinking average city water that was plumbed to you through copper pipes. IMO

I like your cap. Did you make it?

I haven't gotten any off flavors. There was only about 3/16" of copper exposed. I cut a strip of a soda can to isolate the copper from the juice and heat. I really don't think it was needed though.
