Wow, lots of information here. Thanks everybody. The reason I'm not interested in mechs is because from what I've read, you can't adjust the voltage correct? Whatever battery you're using, that's what you get?
By the nature of a mech, correct only the voltage drops as it's used. At the same time you aren't limited.
On most regulated mods- ie MVP, provari and even the DNAs. They won't fire if the coil is below a certain resistance. A mech will fire whatever you put on it. That's how they get so much power out of them. With that power discharge all at once though can come a limitation in battery life. Thy only hold so much power. With the regulated mods you can adjust that and like you said the voltage. I've found that certain juices taste better on my regulated at certain settings; but that's just me.
I have both a mech and regulated, for all day I prefer the regulated with a kayfun. The battery lasts longer; it's not discharging all it's got every time. And the tank holds almost 5 mil of juice. I filler up in the morning and roll out; knowing I'm good till I get home that night. At home or when I'm just relaxing I'll switch between the two.
But for me and the way I vape, a good regulated mod is perfect. In fact I only have the dripper or the mech was because I got a smoking deal on them.
There are some vapors whom I'm sure will respond touting the power of a mech and the massive clouds that it'll blow and you can't beet the flavor. And part of that is true a dual coil a to 0.5 is a fog machine. But, in my opinion for someone just looking to experiment with a dripper a decent RDA on an MVP wrapped well will suit you just fine, and, if you like it and want to try a mech later there no reason not to get one then.
