Hi all,

I have a question here regarding rda, and hope can get an answer from you (experienced RDA users):

I am planning to try RDA and I always have a question which is:

May I know when you know you should drip the juice, how can you know when you should re-drip again, I am thinking if I will need to open it up and have a look to judge, it will be very time consuming, and if I should judge by the taste, so once I can taste that there is not enough juice, that could means there has dry burn again, if so, I think a re-wick will be needed of which is more unreasonable. May I know when will you re-drip?

You get a feel for it. Taste, lack of vapor production. It's not very time consuming as most drippers use o rings to seal it up. Just pop off the top cap and replace. If you use temperature control you don't have to worry about burnt wicks either.

Pretty much this.

At first you can just pop the top off and see if the wick is starting to get dry. Everyone vapes differently, but I re-drip every 3-4 drags at my normal 80 watts.... less often if I've got the wattage down to 40 or 50. That's just an example, but after a while you'll know how many drags you can get before needing to re-drip. It's usually pretty consistent unless you're trying to fill the room with clouds, lol.

I see, so that's pretty much the same as what I am expecting. And I am also planning to try to use TC wire, as also read some articles telling me that could avoid dry burn.

Thanks brother for your advise

Like others have explained, you get a feel for it. Usually pretty quickly. I've been vaping exclusively with RDA's for a few years -- I only just bought my first tank (an 24 mm Moonshot RTA) a couple of weeks ago -- and I can't remember the last time I got a dry hit, even using non-TC wire. I have been using temperature control more often lately, after I tried stainless steel wire. Nickel wire is too soft and difficult to work with. Titanium is easier to build with, and works with contact coils, but you can't dry burn it without creating potentially very dangerous titanium dioxide. I like to clean and rewick my coils often (usually daily, no less frequent than every two days) by pulling out the old wick, dry burning all the gunk off, rinsing, and dry burning again before re-wicking. I can't do this with nickel or titanium, but with stainless wire I can. Stainless wire (I use SS316L) can also be used in non-TC applications too, having approximately half the resistance of Kanthal, and dry burning is not an issue.

I still use Kanthal or nichrome most of the time, and know when my wick is just starting to get dry, so I am able to redrip before getting any dry hits. You'll make a few mistakes at first, but you'll learn too.

Just started to try RDA with Kanthal, and running dual coil with 0.45ohm at 38W, I count that I will need to re-drip every 6-8 puffs. I think the problem because the juice is not high VG, have to change to some higher VG juice, of which may get more puff per drip.
And is waiting for the titanium coil to arrive for TC

Depending on how long your hits are, 6 - 8 puffs before redripping at 38 W sounds about right. If you are only taking 1 - 2 second pulls than something may be off, but if you are taking longer 5+ second pulls you'll need to try a more advanced wicking technique like the "Scottish roll" wick to get more puffs before needing to redrip.

I wouldn't bother with titanium. Stainless steel is hands down the best TC wire. It's the easiest to work with compared to nickel and titanium, has super clean flavor, you can dry burn it like Kanthal and nichrome, and you can even use it on non-TC mods since the resistance isn't ridiculously low (around half that of Kanthal).

I will definitely try the SS afterwards, as I found all brothers here told me to use SS rather than Ti.

I have tried few tanks with my first RDA and found an interesting feeling, I found with the same kind of juice, the taste and flavor is very very different when I take it on RDA compare with RTA before. Is that normal? E.g. I have a lot of super mint juice, I found that the ice cool flavor is much less on RDA compare with RTA. Is that my wicking problem or if that's normal, any brother can share more here with me, thanks
