Just did an experimental build on the 454 big block v2 and I'm loving it so much I had to post this.
Normally I stick with 24g quad coils with all four air holes open but after comparing that setup to some of my other atomizers I just wasn't too happy with the flavor. Too many other atomizers later, I finally had time to experiment a little with this one.
I love quad coils and quad verticals even more, that's the whole reason I bought this atty. So I decided to go with a 'Veritas' style build where you have two vertical coils sitting in front an air hole but instead one set of two coils in front an air hole I did two sets. That gives me a quad vertical build using only two air holes.
The first problem I ran into was the negative screws; I needed the positive leads to go straight into the positive post without any bends which caused the air flow to sit right behind a negative screw. This means I couldn't get my coils to sit right in front of the air hole. I also couldn't get my post to turn either (a good thing and a bad thing :\ ) so I was stuck with this configuration.
To get past that, I decided to place my coils as close as I could to the outlet (drip tip) instead of the inlet (the air holes) since that is part of the reason why those single 'between-the-posts', 'z-coils' work so well for many people. So now my coils are very close to the center post and raised up quite high as well; if you look through the air holes, you only see the bottom half of the coil. The coil pairs are also as close together as possible without shorting out (like you would on a Veritas).
The results: Amazingly rich and robust flavor. The clouds are pretty large as well but it's all about that warm, dense flavor with (IMO) a nice open draw. 4x2.7mm air holes was just way too much air flow for me but 2x2.7mm air holes is perfect for a 0.22 ohm quad coil build.
Build specs: Quad verticals using 26 Kanthal-A1, 7 wraps, 2.4mm inner diameter. Two coils wrapped clockwise and two wrapped counterclockwise so they are symmetrical
