Hi all, I started vaping October 2010. I smoked about 12 - 15 analogs a day. I started out with the eSmoke which is a 2 piece unit, quickly moved to V4L KR808, but never got the satisfaction I wanted. I have tried many different juices from quite a few different vendors. After about a year I tried the DM-1 & Elite Fat Batt style 808's & most recently an 808 eGo.

I am ready to try a mod with a Kick, but I have never used an atty & I am wondering which type to get. If the Kick regulates wattage is there a need for a LR atty, or is SR okay? Would I want a High Voltage atty or does that have nothing to do with wattage & the Kick?

I have my heart set on the PrecisePlus & I know it is worth the money for the quality, but when you add in the Kick, atty's, batteries, charger & of course a nice drip tip & then I know I will want a tank, that is a lot of money when you have limited income. To top it all off, I have not been able to quit smoking-haven't even really cut back much. In your opinion is taking the plunge & spending the money really going to be that much of a different vaping experience for me to finally be able to quit the analogs? Another thing I should mention is that I do not have the opportunity to vape whenever I want, which may be part of the problem. I just don't seem to get the lasting effects like I do with analogs. I need to be able to go 2-3 hours without vaping & it just doesn't seem to work that way with me. Any advice from the veterans out there? Thanks.

Hi LOPCG.

I am ready to try a mod with a Kick, but I have never used an atty & I am wondering which type to get. If the Kick regulates wattage is there a need for a LR atty, or is SR okay? Would I want a High Voltage atty or does that have nothing to do with wattage & the Kick?

The manufacturers of the Kick recommend it is used with resistances between 1.3 and 3.0 ohms. That means low resistance and most standard resistance atomizers or cartomizers. You do not want high voltage ones though as these are normally higher than 3 ohms. How it works is you set the watts you want on the Kick, and it measures the resistance of the atomizer and calculates the voltage needed to achieve that wattage. If you swapped from say a 3.0 ohm atty to a 2.0 ohm atty it'll automatically adjust the voltage to suit, without you making any adjustments, which is a nice feature.

That's difficult to answer. In my opinion, a nice mod with variable power is nice to have, but that's all. Truth is I could get by with an eGo and a low resistance carto if that was all that I had (and that's exactly what I take out with me often) and I wouldn't feel like I was missing out much. It might be worth also considering the liquid you are using. Is the nicotine level high enough? Back when I started I was also only able to vape during breaks, and had a low powered e-cig (a DSE901) and the thing that got me off the cigs and stopped the craving was 36mg liquid. That hit the spot, where the 18mg "high" cartridges didn't.

Also remember that vaping needs longer drags (than smoking) and more of them to effectively absorb the nicotine. Technique is quite important. For more stubborn cravings, then Whole Tobacco Alkaloid (WTA) e-liquid may be worth a try. There's some good info about this and nicotine levels in general in this post here - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/211345-new-users-nicotine-strength-questions.html

As for whether you should buy the mod, if you can afford it then why not - they are built to last, and if you don't like it, quality items are easy to resell anyway! But I definately think you shouldn't need a pricey mod just to control cravings.

Great Advice from Papa...

Early on in my vaping, I bought a 5v mod and believe that it really helped to control my cravings. Not suggesting that you buy a 5v, but that the stronger voltage when I was still craving cigarettes helped me to stay off of smoking. You can achieve the same affect with 3.7v ecigs with low resistance atty. I upgraded because the ecig that I was using didn't hold much of a charge and I needed to have something that would last me all day. The removeable, rechargable batteries just fit my needs much better.

IMHO try adjusting the juice strength you are using as Papa recommended. I vaped 24mg when I quit smoking, and am still needing 24mg. To me, it's still much safer and healthier than cigs.

There are vv and vw options that are less expensive than a Kicked Precise, but you do get what you pay for to some degree.

Good Luck w/ quitting and don't be afraid to chain vape a little when you are slowing down on smoking. Use caution when upping your nic juice strength and pay attention to your body signals. You may just need to tweak your vaping a little bit, and a Precise is a nice reward for cutting down on smoking. You'll have spent that in cigarettes in only a few months.

Personally, Id go with a Provari over a kicked Precise and add a nice Phiniac tank to it. You can also buy some nice pyrex tanks from ibtanked.com and they are a lot cheaper.from the sounds of it you might also think about looking into juices with Whole Tobacco Additives in them. Ive never tried them but I hear they help with the cravings and in giving that same satisfaction of smoking an analog.
