Much of your decision rests upon why you want to enter the world of e-cigarettes. For me, I chose to use them in a non-supported fashion; a way to help me quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. You can read these forums all you want, but you will not truly understand all the chatter until you own an e-cig.

I chose to purchase a penstyle device for the larger battery and cartridge capacity. I soon learned that it is definitely less expensive to refill your spent cartridges rather than purchase new ones from your vendor(s). It is much like the analogy of the drug company that sells the diabetes meter for so cheap since they make their money on the test strip. You will also quickly learn that batteries and cartridges do not last nearly as long as most vendors advertise meaning you have to have smoking juice, on hond to refill/top off cartridges and exta batteries if you are on the go alot.

Up front cost can be rather high, but once you settle into a routine, costs will begin to balance out as you buy less and less analog cigarettes. One last situation you need to be aware of is the shortages of smoking juice and device components. Since the vast majority of products are manufactured in China, there are customs issues, quality control issues and high demand from other users that could leave you short of necessary supplies when you need them the most.

I am a new person to this world. I'm in day two without an analog cigarette. Early returns are good, thus far, for me. I have stocked up on extra atomizers and plan to re-order smoke juice next week. Those are the two most important items for which you want to have as extra. A USB pass-through device is, to me, is the second most important accessory if you spend any time at a computer. You PC can supply poer to your e-cig instead of burning up precious battery power.

Hello,

Ive been reserching e-cigs and im a bit overwhelmed by all the different brands. They arent the chapest thing to purchase, and I want to be sure im not throwing away my money.

Consumer Reports hasnt looked at it yet either.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions.

Thanks.
My 2 cents is get a basic 901. There are many sellers that offer them. Buy a few extra atomizers and a few batteries. Get a sample pack of different juices and see what you like.

I found the same problem when I started. Even a 901 which is an EXCELLENT starter, has price ranges all over the board. Sometimes its because the reseller offers a nice return/warranty, sometimes it's just gouging. You just gotta find a reseller who is reputable and treats you well. I question going "too cheap" because of quality of replacements (you get down to it an ecig is mostly battery and vaporizor) but I can't prove that to be anything more than a theory. Bottom line, make sure the parts are accessible (I recommend getting spares!) and that it's a good value, not necessarially cheap because in the long run if you find a reseller that works with you it could save a lot in the long run.

I think it's daunting finding your first ecig, and the cost seems like "wow" but for me at least, I made up the cost of my 901 in not buying cigarettes pretty quickly. Over time it will normalize out and you will save. Well unless you're like me, gadgety and wants to try the next best thing... haha... the price of entertainment.

I justify the toy purchases because #1 it's cheaper than cigarettes and I'm not getting as "sick" off them, #2 it's cheaper than a night of drinking. :D and #3 eh who cares, it's fun.

But yeah a 901 for around $40 is reasonable, $100+ (which I've seen out there) is INSANE. Different models go for different price ranges some $200+, but from my experiences I would not stray anyone away from a DSE901 or a Yeti (joye501) and their prices in my opinion is reasonable. For the price and performance, two thumbs up!

Hey guys n gals,

Thank you for your advice. There is a Kiosk (sp?) in the local mall selling Smoking anywhere e-cigs. They claim to be a permanent addition to the mall and continued purchase of atomizer and cartricge is possible there. also they do have a website where you can purchase online refills.

It seems I will try them. I still dont understand all the terminology.

Do all brands have a 901 as recomended above?

Worst mistake you could make! Way more expensive than buying online from some of the suppliers frequently discussed here, poor quality, and many horror stories of poor customer service. Search the forum and you will see all the posts of people bitterly regretting buying from them.

from TrueVapor.com

1 DSE901 w/2 batteries, 5 cartridges, charger, etc.
1 spare Atomizer (as recommended on this forum)
1 12.5ml bottle of True Menthol 18mg
1 carrying case

I smoked analogs for 10 years and then quit about 2 years ago. That lasted for 18 months and I've been off and on ever since (currently on!) so thought I would give this a shot.

As others have stated, I enjoy smoking but quit for health reasons so maybe this will be the best of both worlds. We'll see.

I probably went to strong at 18mg considering I'm only smoking 10-12 analogs a day right now but what the hey.:)

That's about how much I was smoking analogs. Assuming there was 1mg of nicotine in each cig, you were smoking 10-12mg a day. That would mean, when you get your juice, you should only be smoking 2/3 of a ml a day to equal your current nicotine intake (2/3 of 18 is 12mg). What I did was to buy the strongest liquid (36mg) and "cut" it with pg, vg and lorann flavors. WHile I'm not finished experimenting yet, my latest batch is about 20% of the 36mg (so around 7mg per ml). I did this because I find myself vaping about 1.5ml a day which means I'm smoking the equivalent of 7x1.5, or just over 10 analogs a day.
