If the nominations for the stupid question of the day are still open, I’d like to provide an entry. And that is: can you use a black cartomizer in a tank?

I’d like to try a tank system to see how that compares to the clearomizers I’ve been using. I thought I’d just buy a tank alone since I have a pack of Boge cartomizers. But, they are black and every picture I’ve seen of a tank uses a stainless cartomizer.

Of course, the carto has to be the right length for the tank and needs to be punched. Other than that, any issues with a black carto? If so, could I peel off the black paper coating and then use it?

Thanks!

Stupid questions do not exist here.

You would be able to use these but you have to take the sticker or the black wrapping off of them before doing so. After this is done nextstep is to remove the sticky gum that the sticker leaves behind with isopropyl alcohol. When both steps are complete, you can use those cartos on a tank

Hope this helps

For just trying it out, definitely simpler to just buy a couple of prepunched cartos to use with the tank.

If you want to use your unpunched, covered, cartos, you need to fully remove the paper cover, and the glue (which can be a PITA), then punch them or cut a slot with a dremel. To punch them you can try a saddle valve (I loathed the several I used -- a hassle overall), else get something like Cartomizer Punch, which costs about the same as a saddle valve but really works well, consistently, minimum time.

If the freezer doesn't help, rubbing alcohol and some fine grit sandpaper will remove the residue. I remember something back in the 90's called Goo Be Gone. Do they still even make that stuff anymore?

Anyway, I know this isn't a direct answer to your question, but once you run out of your normal boge cartos, I suggest buying laser-punched flanged cartos for use in a tank.

Are the boges you have in black flanged? A flange means it's got like little wings on the bottom, near the threaded connector end. Flanges help keep the tank in place on the carto.

If your cartos are not flanged, be careful handling your PV. If you lift it while holding the tank, it will most certainly slide off.

The pre-punched and flanged cartomizers are nice...but not a necessity. And anyway...the holes the manufacturer punches tends to be a bit low which can make you carto very noisy. Anyway..as for the flange, it's a pretty good "insurance policy" for noobs to tanks, but I never use them anymore. And I DO have some tanks that fit a bit looser than optimum. Generally, the suction from the vacuum and the O rings is enough to keep the tank on an even keel and not slip down too far causing leaks (not as "secure" if you are putting your device with tank attached in a pocket, though). When you pick up your device...best not to grab the tank tube unless you have a drip tip on with a wide base that will prevent the tube from sliding up and off. A flange isn't going to help with that.

Give the blackie a try using the tips here. Don't punch your hole too low...try to eyeball it so it's above where you think the bottom coil is located in the cartomizer. Put another small hole directly above the first one...just a little hole...and that really helps. Yes..you can do that with thin juice. I do all the time. Good luck and happy vaping! I love carto tanks!
