I think it comes down to personal preference. Some people don't want to deal with rebuilding and will always use tanks with disposable atomizer heads. I personally love to build and tinker, so I ordered a Kayfun Lite Plus clone RBA. It just got here tonight so I'm soaking it now and can't wait to start building. Another benefit to rebuilding is that you can customize the coils and build a coil to your preferences rather than having to go with the one or two resistance options on premade coils...

For the price of a 5-pack of Nautilus coils, you can get a decade's worth of kanthal and cotton. There is the cost of the RBA itself, which can run from $30-ish for a clone to $100-200 for a genuine Kayfun or Aqua. So, basically, it's as cheap or expensive as you want to make it. I'm still new to rebuilding, but I think it will be much cheaper in the long run... and there is kind of a caveman-ish thrill to building your own fire!

RBAs...Rebuildable Atomizer tanks are truly awesome. The Kay fun Lite Plus are the Aqua tanks are phenomenal. My coil bills for these are 8n the 1.4ohm range so they vape better on a mech mod for me. You can build them anyway you want to but I like a warmer vape. If you build at 1.8ohms you can use your vv|vw mods....it gives you more flexibility with your coils and overall vape than a prebiotic or rebuilt stock coil. Good Luck!

Many of the ones that have replaceable coils can also be rebuilt...so you don't have to buy something expensive. I've been experimenting with rebuilding (kayfuns, gennies, drippers and protanks) just as a precaution against regulation. I think I would much prefer to just replace the coil with a premade one...but you never know.

I have a Kanger ProTank 2 that I rebuild the atomizers using 32 gauge Kanthal and Organic Cotton. I started simply getting some 2mm silica and Kanthal wire. The biggest thing I found was to make sure that you have a meter that can be used to measure the resistance (ohms). It a really important to know the resistance. Currently, I run a 2 ohm coil with cotton in the PT2. Works like a charm for me. Since it's based on personal preference, you may like lower (maybe a 1.8 ohm) or higher (maybe 2.5 ohm) resistance coil. 2.0 ohms works for me right now. It really is easy to do and much cheaper than purchasing atomizers. Just make sure you have a way to test resistance.

I had tried to learn to rebuild protank heads but its just too small a space for me. I got me a Kayfun Lite and it is sooo easy! Tastes better too. Plus I can tighten the draw to mimic a carto tank but I don't have to buy the cartomizers! I have already bought 3 of them.

I just like knowing that I can build me a coil anytime I want and not have to worry about ordering more or getting duds.

HUGE! cost savings in rebuilding your tanks. Easier to rebuild single coil bottom feeder tanks like: evods, and many Kanger products.

You might consider taking a stepped approach like I did.

Step 1 Replace coil in the coil head with: Pre-made Wires and Wicks for Atomizer (50-Pack) 32 AWG / 1.5ohm / 1-wick $2.26 from Fasttech. Fifty times you can have a new coil head setup for less than the price of 1 new head. Different ohm rating coils are available.

You need to be able to read the coils resistance after assembly into the head to make sure it was assembled correctly - I used and still use my taste MVP 2 to do that or you could purchase a "Volt Ohm Meter for E-Cigarette" at Fasttech for around $12.

Step 2: I purchased some kanthal 28 gauge wire and peaches and cream cotton yarn/rope at walmart for wicking material - and built coils.

I watched Rip Trippers beginner coil building videos on youtube

After that the combinations and permutations of coil building (different materials/coil shapes and sizes) is almost limitless and very inexpensive.

If you want to try dripping - that also can be inexpensive. I have had excellent results using IGO style rebuildable dripping atomizers (RDAs) from Fasttech and prices range from $7 to I think $10ish. I started with the simple $7 IGO-L single coil , so long ago I can't remember, and still use it today.

Don't bother with rebuilding stock screw in coil heads. Yes they will vape better, but its very tedious, and in my opinion not worth the time unless you have a few bad ones around you just want to make good on. RTA's like the Fogger and Aqua are rediculous in my opinion. No vape quite like them, especially for direct lung hitters. For mouth to lung hitters go with a Kayfun. Can't get the airflow open quite enough on stock AFC (even with screw all the way out) on the Kayfuns for direct lung hits that compare to the Fogger v4/Aqua. Not to say the Kayfuns aren't great because they are, and going with any of the above mentioned RTAs will simply be in a whole nother realm in terms of flavor and vapor than any type of Aspire BDC, Natuilus, Protank, or Kanger. The builds are also much easier than a tedious 32g dual stacked coil single strand of 2mm silica build that you have to do on these stock heads. Not to mention taking them apart and worry about the insulators moving all over the place. Just not an enjoyable experience. But when rebuilding a true rebuildable RTA or RDA, its fun, and worth doing. RTA, RDA, all the way, without a question. Subohm on mech mods, these tanks are monsters. Obviously make sure you have the knowledge of safety if making those types of builds.
