Hey everyone! I am looking to upgrade from my clearomizers and eGo batteries and am a little overwhelmed at all the information on ECF. I am looking to get several different styles of R(B/D/T)As, a mechanical mod, a VV/VW mod, and any tools and supplies I would need to get started. I would love if the mods took 18350 batteries as we have quite a few around, and they would be smaller. I am looking to order from fasttech, as they are inexpensive to start.

Any advice?

Thanks! Tons of info for me to read through this weekend! Any specific recommendations for mods or RBAs I should try?

You'll see a lot of recommendations for a Kayfun.

Here is an inexpensive, and well machined option from Fasttech:

$14.39 Kayfun Lite Styled Rebuildable Atomizer (4.5mL) - clear tank section at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

They have several different colored clear sections to chose from.

For a nice first mech mod, this one has served me very well and can be configured for 18350:

$24.63 Nemesis Style Mechanical Mod - stainless steel / with telescopic 510 contact pin at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

A nemesis and kayfun are a great looking combo. Plenty of information here in regards to building the Kayfun, and here is a great video:

I would say get an igo w or some other cheap dripper (RDA). easy to learn on and will taste better and have better vapor production than the kayfun (sorry I am kinda just a hater on the kf) I started with mechs but now rarely use them, I got an ipv2 and am loving it (I have the cloupor T8 on preorder as well). There are plenty of cheap regulated mods out there and probably some that use 18350 but I dont know of any. maybe the mini cana 30 or the Eleaf istick is pretty small. this would be my recommendation.

If you want to get a kayfun-like rebuildable, the orchid is awesome! closest thing I have come across to an actual dripper EDIT: it is also super easy to build on with 4 dedicated post holes

Awesome suggestions! This is why I want to get a few different styles, to see what I end up liking. I will definitely check out all of those!

The problem with 18350 batteries is that they mostly have pretty limited continuous discharge rates (amps). This will make more sense to you after you've read Baditude's blogs, but the net result is that you won't be able to create very low ohm builds safely. Since you're asking about dripping, mods, and rebuildables, this is something that you're probably interested in doing. Pay particular attention to Baditude's blogs on Ohm's law and battery safety first, before you start buying stuff, and you'll have a better idea of what you need. Hint: you'll probably want to go with Sony VTC5s and an 18650 mod instead of 18350s. Most high wattage VV/VW mods won't work with 18350s safely for the simple reason that 18350s can't put out enough current to supply the wattage demands above 15W-25W or so.

As for tools and supplies...

MANDATORY: An ohm meter or at least a mod capable of reading coil resistivity
Kanthal wire, I tend to use a lot of 30 gauge, but also have 28 and 32 on hand. 32 is harder to work with, 28 takes some power to heat up
Wire clippers or fingernail clippers to cut the wire
Wicking material, I have been very happy with the Japanese cotton pads
Optional-small torch for annealing wire, you can also just pulse the coil on your mod once it's built
Tweezers are nice for pulling wick through your coil
Small needle nose pliers
Some sort of mandrel to wrap coils on, such as a drill bit. I use the Coiling Gizmo from Artistic Wire, makes it a breeze
A nice, cleared, well lit table or desk!

I have a whole tackle box full of stuff, but this is the stuff I use every time.

I personally prefer the Taifun GT to Kayfun. I think its a little easier to build, and super easy to fill. And you can access the build deck without dumping the juice.

Kayfuns are great though :)

Oh, I like the sound of that! Thanks!

I don't want to got low ohm right away. Thats why I wanted to look into cheap and easy clones first. See if I like it, what I want to do from there. I'll for sure be reading through a lot of Bad's blogs over the next while before I do anything. So, if I'm not going super lower ohms or super high watts, would 18350s be ok for now? Maybe a VV/VW mod that allows options for both 18350 and 18650, like the Vamo? What about something with a built-in battery, like the MVP?

For the torch, would a butane torch-style lighter work?

Yes, a VW device that takes 18350s will work, but will have limited output Wattage (15W or 20W maximum, most likely). They'll also have recommended battery types for those 18350s, likely they'll be AW IMR 18350s.

You can use pretty much anything that for a torch that doesn't leave a lot of soot and can get a thin piece of wire red hot. A butane torch-style lighter will work fine.

I first started rebuilding using an MVP v2. I can fire anything above 1ohm on on it.

1. Huge (2600 mah) battery
2. Variable Voltage - Voltage can be adjusted from 3.3 ~ 5.0 in 0.1 volt increments
3. Variable Wattage - Wattage can be adjusted from 6.0 ~ 11.0 in 0.5 watt increments
4. Ohms Meter - Reads the resistance of your atomizer
5. Pass through ability
6. $40 shipped at many online stores

It's an inexpensive and safe way to get into rebuildables as you learn all you will need to learn to get into Mech Mods. Plus, if you do ever get into Mech mods you can still use all your clearomizers and RTA's that do not like a sub-ohm build (like the Kayfun).

Very helpful. Would these batteries be ok?

Thanks Susan! That's a great option! (Also, cute cat!)

I wouldn't get those. Those particular batteries are rated as 8Amps, but are most likely only 6.4A continuous discharge (according to other sources). The Efest purple 18350s that are 700mAh are supposed to put out 8A continuous, and are rated at 10.5A (believe the 8A, not the 10.5A). If you're vaping at 25W, for example, and the batteries drain down to 3.7V, you would have to draw 6.8A to reach 25W. That's more than the red batteries can put out safely, but within the range of the purple batteries. Of course, if you go higher, like 30W, you'd be in even more danger with the red batteries, and you'd be pushing the safe limits of the purple batteries as well.

Of course, if you stay under 15W, then either battery will be perfectly safe. But, I'm not a cloud chaser by any means, and I'm currently vaping around 25W, so that might tell you something.

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. So the red ones that I have are ok with say, a Vamo at or under 15 W, but once I start getting into higher wattage, I'd want to upgrade my batteries. I am usually between 4 and 6 watts with my eGo Twists, so that's likely what I'd aim for with my new stuff to start.

I'm more looking at rebuilding so I can save some money and know I'm covered if I can't get anything else in the future.

Thank you so much! Very helpful!

The only mods I can think of that use 18350s are Provari minis and mechs.

Very popular right now so hard to find in stock are the Eleaf iSticks. Under $40 and go to 20w.

The mvp is limited to 11w but with a big tank like a Taifun, doesn't look as silly I guess as the iStick. The iStick though works better with single coil rebuildables IMO. I do have my Taifun on the mvp atm because the mod it normally lives on died today.

Yes, that's exactly right. If I wanted to make sure I was covered if I couldn't get anything else in the future, I'd get the highest continuous discharge batteries available. That way, I'd be covered if my tastes changed. I think one of the common ways that people's tastes change is to go from low vapor output with high nic juice to high vapor output with low nic juice. It produces more flavor and a more satisfying vaping experience for a lot of people. So, that's something I'd want to be prepared for.
