Thanks Kuidaore that give me a good rough idea and starting point. I'm going to be using pre-made coils that are 2.5 ohm, on a VV device. The main reason I'm getting one is to test flavors and I figured this would be much better than standard 510 attys. Also cheaper in the long run with 5pks of coils at $2.32 and even cheaper yet if I decide to make my own someday. Also I like a wide variety of juice flavors and sometimes I just like to drip because you can switch flavors easier and more often. Oh and I've heard the flavor and vapor production with these is really outstanding and I've been hearing that for awhile now so I just have to check it out.

Oh one last thing - I think P Busardo has some videos now with RDAs I bet I should watch those for some good pointers.

Phil has fantastic videos on rebuildables--from ViVi Novas and up!

Check the YouTube!

I can relate to this a little.

First starting out: All I really need are juices and replacement heads, it'll be cheap.

A few weeks later: I guess I could try a different battery / clearo. It's fine, I won't spend too much. Just one upgrade.

One week after: RBAs don't look too bad, I think I can do that. ...Ok, actually they might be a bit tough for me, but really I only need one mod and one RBA.

Two more days: I want a Vamo. And a Sigelei #8, and a Magneto. Maybe a ProVari just to see what the fuss is all about. I saw some other awesome mods too. Wait, what am I saying? Where'd all my money go?

Something like that... ;)

Yes. Yes! *THIS*!

I am now onto a ProVari. It should arrive in the next couple of days. I am hopeful that it will be my last mod.

The eVic screwed me good. Lesson learned.

Spent more learning this stuff. I could have EASILY been on my fifth or sixth ProVari by now. :-(

RBAs/RDAs and mechanical mods are just one combination. You don't have to have both to get a good vape.

The world of RBAs can be simple to complex. Basically, they require the user to build the electronic parts of them and are a shell for this. This is done through the use of Kanthal wire and a wicking material (silica, Ekowool, cotton, SS Mesh, etc...). The resistance wire is connected through a positive post and is grounded through the negative post. The wicking material is wrapped in loops of resistance wire to vaporize the juice on the wick.

Drippers (Igo-w,l, Squid, Nimbus) are usually what is recommended to people just starting out. Because they are simple, once you are able to wrap the Kanthal around the wick evenly, they do not require much more to get going.

Genesis-style atomizers (like the RSST, AGA T2, DID) are a tank with the place where you build the coil on top. These are meant to be used with SS Mesh as a wick. Very difficult to master.

Oh I forgot to mention I'm going to cheat buying some already made coils from SmartVapes for $2.32 per 5pack.

Hmm, good luck with that, hope it works out for you. Have found that most prebuilt coils don't live up to expectations. And had to fine tune builds to ones personal rba, I had to build my own. But it's a good start. Even replacing coil heads on a Protank are the baby steps to building you own.

lmao, this story sounds familiar. Thought wrapping coils and wicking would be a major PIA. Went from free style wrapping silica, with better results than my old PT could hope to produce, then jumped on the micro coil build, then switched to the Nano Dragon Coil Build. The micro and Dragon build are both very similar. You start out with wrapping you wire of choice around a 1/16" drill bit or smaller. With the micro, you then thread cotton through the coil. Gives an impressive vape. The Nano Dragon, is the micro build, but you lay your coil on the bed of cotton or wrap the cotton around the outside of the coil. Gives an incredible amount of juicy vape. Is my build of choice, this week at least. lol

I currently wrap my coils around a large paperclip using anywhere from 10 to 15 close tight close wraps. Depending on the wire I'm using and the rba I'm building. The specifics are determined by one's personal preferences. A fair amount of frustration can be involved. But have found the end results truly worth it, and have a sense of accomplishment, once the clouds of vape form. What I really appreciate about the Dragon Build, is that I can max out my Provari, have it at 6 volts, which is 14.4 watts on my current build, and the juice is just juicer in taste. No burn taste at all, temp is warm and nice smooth draw. Finding the right density of the cotton and how much to use was a major frustration, but finally got it.

5 months ago I started with a cigalike, a month later I was burning an 1300mha ego style battery topped with a protank. A month ago I joined the Provari club. Can easily see the P being my last devise, but that damn VTR looks really nice. lol. In the last couple weeks I started rba's and so glad I did. Using a Kayfun style rba with a vertically mounted Dragon Build. Two days ago I started DIY juice. Really loving the improved flavor and cost savings of DIY juice. Especially seeing what a juice hog my rba has become. Just tried my second trial recipe, some Dragon Fruit extract with a dash of Almond. Yumm, think I'm going to add a bit of Apple to it on my next sample before I whip up 50ml though.

this mesh wick and coil is about 6 days away from being 2 months old.

just a warning, you play with rebuildables and for 99.5% of the people there is no going back. to me no premade device can come close to the flavor and vapor of a well built RBA. mesh genis are my favorite.

I also agree with the other poster, A mechanical is not required to enjoy rebuildables.

I've only been vaping for a few weeks. I went straight to a mech mod with an IGO-W RDA. The guy at the shop where I bought the gear showed me how to set up a dual micro-coil/ekowool build and that's all I've ever used. It's amazingly simple to set up and hits really, really well. There's no reason not to jump right in if you don't mind a dripping setup. Tanks with mesh wicks would be a step up in difficulty. If you don't have a multimeter to check coil resistance, get one. It's by far the quickest way to spot problems with any type of build you do. OT: can anyone tell me why my paragraphs get squished into one big wall-o-text when I post?

Oh I don't know that they are all that difficult to master. I got into a mech and RBA two months into vaping, and I'm doing very well with that and on my second RBA now an RSST. I have my coils and wicks nailed down right where I want them running at .8 ohm. Mileage may vary with individuals but I didn't find it all that difficult.

As long as you have the means to check your resistance and make sure you don't have a hard short, and you are using the right batteries it's largely a matter of watching the videos (kudos to PBusardo) and taking your time about it. Two months into vaping I was a confirmed mech/RBA vaper for good.
