thank you everyone for your input after checking some rba out i think im going to purchase the A8 tank from highdesertvapes.com for $24.99 i like the sleek design. it was a toss up between the smoketech rsst genesis, terminator-c and the A8, who knows maybe in the long run i will own all 3 but for now wish me luck on my first rba!

One more question once i get my RBA set up should i check it on a digital volt meter before screwing it onto my pro vari?

Actually my ProVari is the meter that I use to check my RBA's on. It has great protection ckts built into it.

OMG. (Rest deleted before posting.) :p

    OP...if you don't already have a ProVari and aren't thinking of getting one right now...get a cheap multi-meter. :p

My standard RBA recommendations as they both score high in quality, performance, and price:
    Tank style: AGA-T2(+)
    Dripper style: IGO-L

Both are made from stainless steel and perform outstandingly well. For tips on setting up an AGA-T read my blog entries (click under my avatar). <-- This will save you a lot of set up hassle.

Two of the issues with RBA's is always going to be:
    1) "Can I get in here with my fingers/tools?" and
    2) "Can I see what I am working on?"

(Adjunct to that is "Can I get replacement parts?" - I broke my Tiamat center-pin at the shoulder where the threads start).

I can vouch for the Tiamat being a nice, (albeit overly heavy/thick), device. It was my goto-atty on my homemade OKR-mod, although mine is a v1.

Currently, I am using a DV Griffin and had great success for a few days with mesh. Last night I suffered a night in H-double-hockeysticks: 4 coils in 4 hours - rewinding and reconnecting all night. Today I vaped a mini-nova clearo just fine.

The issue I had with the Vamo+Griffin is that silicon gasket under the centerpin in the head: it's being forced aside by atty like the Griffin and I need to perform the o-ring replacement procedure. I've got to buy those #60 o-rings, but meanwhile the Griffin is rigged with silica (I was doublechecking mesh-issues), and with the addition of an eGo/510 adapter, the Vamo is behaving well again.

Yes, SS mesh is really nice - when it works. And, believe me: you want an atty you can get inside of. I hear the RSST atty are also supposed to be good, but I have yet to try one. The jury is still out on Ceramic wicks, but while very fragile to side-pressures, I understand those vape nicely as well. However, price-wise: silica or SS mesh (400 or higher) is likely the best-bet on RBA's.

Oh, I should mention: the Griffin is right on the edge of "too small to work inside of" - I need tweezers for much of the work.

The screws used by most RBA's also seem really, really bad choices: you likely will not find replacements at your local HW store, and it's doubtful they are threaded such that modellers/RC-supplies can help, either.

I was wanting to get a rsst but my supplier, who carries all smoktech stuff said that he had heard that there was some problems with the rsst. But he does carry the aga t2 and I was drooling checking that out but decided to hold off till I get a torch and a few tools. Can't wait to get into rbas!

Heck, with a little Kanthal wire you can probably start with what you have. Here is a smok redux (CE5 clone) that I just rebuilt with part of a common cotton ball and about 2 pennies worth of 34 gauge kanthal. Took all of 10 minutes and vapes great, although it's a bit tighter draw than OEM silica and *maybe* the flavor seems just a bit muted. But three cents instead of three dollars for a replacement head?!?! Yeah buddy! :D

Start with rebuilding your vivi novas. I have one wicked with cotton, the flavor was so intense I had to drop the power two watts, and another wicked in mesh. It makes a big difference and the vivi nova is probably the easiest rebuild there is.

Use the time learning to build good coils to study up on the rba's out there. Try the cheaper ones for size. If you get a great vape who cares how much it didn't cost? PBusardo, igetcha69 and Todd ecigreviews are pretty good at explaining and reviewing stuff. The thing is the rba styles are very different, they aren't just variations on a theme the way the pv's are. Don't waste the money buying expensive until you're sure you like the style.
