So I just started using a a7 rebuildable and set it up with a pre rolled silica and nichrome wick from avid. It's 2.5 ohm @ 4.2 volts. After about a day of use its starting to taste burnt. I chain vape but I never let it dry out. After the first day it was tasting weird so I switched out the coil and already a day later the new coil is giving off a burnt taste.

Any idea what may be causing this?

I've noticed that if I let mine sit overnight with juice still in the reservoir it takes a bit before it starts hitting good again. Bishop recommends draining the juice from your tank (or dripping atty) nightly. Being the lazy sort, I've had good results just priming the wick with some fresh e-juice first thing in the morning.

Is there gunk on your coil and the wick under your coil? If so you'll need to rinse and then dry burn it. Silica is able to take the heat so if there's gunk a dry burn will clean it off. When I'm vaping juices that are really dark or NETs that are dirty I may have to dry burn twice or even more in a day. Most other juices I can go a full day in between dry burns.

It would help to know what juice you are vaping... flavor, nic and pg-vg ratio especially but without knowing that I'm going to agree... it sounds like a hot spot on the coil somewhere. Wash it good, carefully dab it dry with a paper towel or something, then dry burn it. Pay attention to if the coils all light up evenly or not. You might be able to adjust them a bit with the tip of a toothpick or similar...

Coils are pretty sensitive items. Shipping pre-made ones can mess them up in transit and/or you can accidentally create hot spots while screwing down a new one too. I get at least a week out of my A7 coils but then again I twist them up myself too. YMMV.

I vape heavy VG juices, so maybe its just gunking up rapidly...its weird though because my hh.357s never gunked up in a day...

heres a picture of me dry burning my coil, looks fine to me...

Yeah, RBA coils tend to gunk up quicker with dark, sweet, or otherwise dirty juices than standard atties.

How's the flavor after the dry burn?

Right on. Yeah I traded in my previous cleaning schedule with atties, which was after about 3 days, to the daily burn of RBAs. It's more often, but at least it's quick and easy. I also suggest getting some of the higher quality silica available if you find the silica breaking apart from the cleaning and burning. The double twisted German silica I use now lasts MUCH longer than the standard twisted silica I was using. Since it lasts so long it can start tasting funky before needing to be replaced so I just torch it white and it's like new.

Edit: meant higher quality silica, not coil

If you're vaping Boba's its really bad about gunking up coils. You can build your own and save a lot of money. I'd suggest 2.5 or even 3mm silica and 32g Kanthal A1. The fatter wick allows for less wraps of the coil because of the larger diameter. With fatter wick and more space between the coil wraps I usually go two or three days of Boba's before I have to dry burn. I don't rinse it out I just dab the wick as dry as I can get it with a paper towel. The bonus is the coils taste better after dry burning than replacing with a new one. I usually build a new setup every week or two.

I only use throwaway Clearos.
CE4s & Nano 510s.
Ordered a pack of CE6s from FastTech.
$14 for 7 random colored ones shipped.
At that price I'll toss them too when the coils die.

Yeah, throwing away a $2 device makes much more sense than taking 10 seconds to do a dry burn. It also makes more sense than to go that route than the 10 cents a new coil costs to replace when it dies. And that muted clearo flavor is better too!

I dry burn my a7-oid every day or two. I also found it better to do a large coil and not restrict the silica, just tight enough to touch it.

Yeah choking the wick by wrapping too tight really hurts performance. Especially for smaller diameter wicks that need the juice wicking well to keep up. Larger wicks are more forgiving and a little easier to set up.

I ordered some 34 gauge nichrome last night. Any b&m stores that sell good quality silica or am I better off getting the german stuff from ebay?

Not sure about b&m stores, but you can get the German silica at RTDVapor for $10 for 10 feet. When I looked at ebay it seemed to be less expensive to just get it from RTD than from Germany, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
