As you can see, thare are more than enough rba, rda, and RTA's to try. The bad part is that you will never know which one YOU like best unless you try them all. I've always gotten a chuckle out of when someone says "this one is best" when it's the only kind they have tried.

In the end, everyone has their own style of doing things, and that may or may not determine what works best. For example I am more likely to lay my PV down instead of standing it up. Laying a RBA with a side air hole down in your lap is not a good idea  Yes I know that I could change my habit of laying my PV in my lap, but I don't want to. This made the A7 rda, and the KF type RTA's the right choices for "me". YMMV

I started building with an IGO-L. Cheap it came easy to me. Now i have a KF Clone and can't wait to tinker with it when I get home. I rebuilt a few coils for my Protank but find that I get more satisfaction with my IGO because of the simplicity and larger build area not to mention after you build a PT, you still have to wick it just right. I say go for something cheap like the IGo in the beginning to see if it is for you.

I don't think you must try them all... Watch several reviews on each. You can see how people build it, how it works, and what reviewers think! You can look at reviews for the stuff you have and see what reviews say about that to see how your opinion may differ from theirs!

ordered a cheap 'n cheerful KFL+ clone ($14) and Vamo v5 ($25). Looking forward to fiddling around with this after eyeballing the forums and vids for the past couple of months. Figure if it works for me, I can invest in some better kit; if it doesn't, then I haven't chewed up too much of my ciggy bank funds.

Now I just have to find some room to set up shop as I'm pretty sure the missus doesn't want a torch living on the kitchen table (unless I start making a whack of crème brullé...)

    Happy Mundy, all!

I don't think there's anything wrong with starting out on protank/evod heads if that's what you have. It's true that the space IS more tight so it's not as "easy" as something with a huge deck. But it's not really hard & if you do start out on those, at least in my experience, it makes moving to something meant to be built a lot easier. I rebuilt Vivi nova heads for a long time before switching to my Evod & then rebuilt those a few times too before moving completely to RBAs. After rebuilding the Novas for that long the RBAs have been a piece of cake for me as far as rebuilding goes.

HST I wouldn't recommend buying something like a protank just for the purpose of rebuilding the heads. If that's what you have then it's a good starting spot though.
