So I found my old evod that no longer has a working coil and I thought why go out and buy one when I can just rebuild it myself. So I did some research and I'm looking to confirm that all I need is kanthal wire and a wick. Both of which I have found on LT ecigs. Another question is what difference does the thickness of wire have? I see most people saying 0.18 or 0.2mm thickness.

I would use 30 gauge kanthal and then cotton balls. You can pinch the cotton slowly off so you get a strip, then roll it between your fingers. You want it to go through the coil easily but touch on all sides, if its too tight youll get burnt hits and too. I wrapped my evod/protank heads on a 5/64 or 1/32 bit, about 8 wraps total and get about 1.8 ohm which I feel is a nice spot for them.

Also I bought my Kanthal in 100' on ebay, you can get it from Temco for like 6-8 bucks for 100' and youre all set on wire for about 2 years lol

(Many use 28ga but at higher ohm it takes too long to heat up in my experience unless you wrap it under 1.2ohm a coil)

30ga(0.25mm) to 32ga(0.20mm) is best range of wire to use for these. The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire is, and the less resistance per inch it has. Before you buy, you might want to download Vaper's Toolbox and play with different resistances and wire gauges to figure out which gauge you really want to get your desired thickness. For EVOD heads, on the Coil Builder page of the app use 7.62mm and 6.35mm for the two leg lengths. Try to shoot for a build that uses between 6 and 8 wraps.

I would agree with 30ga for rebuilding heads. I use larger gauges for micro coils where I find it easier to get it exactly the way I want. 30ga just works nice for me in heads where space is low and fiddle factor is high :D Each to their own though, I got a ton of 5 meter rolls super cheap in lots of different gauges so I could find what I like the best.

Thank you for all the responses, seen as this stuff is so cheap im going to order some different ones. 28g, 30g and 32g. Means I can play about on my evod find what works for me =) But once again thank you for all the responses.

You know you probably made the best choice. I started with 28, and my curiosity got the best of me, different gauges seems to have their advantages and disadvantages, and i use them all for different builds and devices. I feel like 30 worked the best for me in my Protank/Evods which is why that was my response! Youre going to have some fun!
