I have rebuilt a Nautilus coil with 28 ga. kanthal and it reads 1.1 ohms. I would like to know if any dangers exist with this build. I torched and pinched the coil before wicking and primed it well. I did this as an experiment to see if Aspire chooses not to build coils lower than 1.6 and to see if it would improve the vape and be safe. It does. I can get more everything. The coil does not get overly warm and the grommet seems to handle it without issues. I see no damage to the tank, juice, or the coil body. So, are there any pitfalls to what I've done that I can't foresee? I have a lot of other vaping options so this isn't critical for me to be able to vape. Thanks to all replies.

the coil legs have to contact electrically and they do so by having to squeeze between metal and grommet in the lower area of the coil head.

the thicker the wire, the more impractical it becomes to do that; - tight fit; possible leaking issues.
ribbon wire (flattened wire) would fit better.

thicker wire coils are also going to be physically bigger and have less wiggle room inside the coil head, so there is the risk of the coil shorting out on the sides.

So more of a possibility of dry hits?

Wicks fine. I was nervous that building below the ohms of a stock coil would lead to the grommet burning eventually. I was glad someone else had done a low ohm build for it and it worked for him. One more wrap would have given me 1.4 or 1.5 but I wanted to go to 1.0 and I value the knowledge from everyone here to help me with this. I'm only trying to keep it safe. :)

I'm planning on rebuilding one this weekend and was going to shoot for 1.3 to 1.4, but I may just have to do another around 1 to try it out!
