I don't know if this has been discussed before so I'll stop short of claiming I had an epiphany, lol...

I ordered a Super-T Workhorse this morning which has a recessed firing button and no lock ring. This mod will likely see pocket duty and I was thinking of a way to protect the button. Enter fishing rod end caps. These are available in a variety of sizes.

it also happens that a lot of bicycle/motorcycle/scooter handlebars are 22mm in diameter. So, for 22mm mods, an old pair of rubber handgrips could probably be cut down to provide an end cap as well. I'm also thinking a variety of caps may be found at hardware and/or auto parts stores.

Similarly, I imaging rubber walking stick/cane tips/furniture leg caps would be viable candidates, albeit kind of big and clunky.

Obviously, I have way too much time on my hands.

Congratulations, that is a really nice device.

I might suggest you wait until you have the device in-hand before you solve a problem that "probably" does not exist. (unless you have gnomes in your pockets... Then just ignore me :D)

Valid point. I tend to overthink things and often devise solutions to problems which, in fact, do not exist. Just ask my wife!

As for pocket gnomes, I've been known to have stranger things in my pockets. However, I'll make a concerted effort to avoid any other pocketable items co-habitating with my Workhorse.

Maybe this "solution" would be beneficial for our purse wielding denizens. (it's a damn fine idea, I'm sure of it!)

Ssshhhh... don't rain on my parade, dang it!

I don't have or use device's like this but I think it's a great idea. Not necessarily to prevent it from firing because I'd expect you wouldn't have your pockets full of jangle with a mod in there but to prevent pocket lint or debri from getting up in the switch over time which could cause it to hang closed when you least expect it.

Haven't been taking my workhorse out of the house for this very reason. May give a cap like this a try and have been thinking about trying to find something to fit of the end already. what size did you go with (if u got one of these) and how's it working out?

I haven't purchased anything yet. My Workhorse is scheduled for delivery on Monday. If I order one of the surf rod end caps I'll order the 7/8"-15/16" one. 22mm is ~4/5".

I have to go to Lowes this morning and I'll probably browse around for stuff that may work.

The problem do exist, I dunno how you can carry those things with no lock mechanism and feel safe. Yes with very basic precautions you'll almost never have a problem, but s_h_i_t happens anyway, you can't control everything and everybody all the time that's why we have safety mechanisms.

I read a post some weeks ago about a guy with a recessed button mod in his bag, stowed in a perfecly secured manner (ie couldn't move, nothing around to push the button) except... he puts his bag down, goes to have a shower or whatever and his sister happens to put her bag on top of his. Something protudes from her bag and pushs the button, and the mod autofires for who knows how long.

I mean you could say the same thing about low current circuit breakers in your house : they're useless unless you're dumb enough to put your fingers in the socket right ? and they are, 99,99% of the time. They still save lots of live every year that happened to fall in those 0.1%. And no it's not an intelligence thing, everybody makes mistakes at one moment or another (OK some do make more mistakes than others :))

In my book autofiring mods are more dangerous than shorts or not respecting the amps of your battery. With those when the problem happens you probably won't be around, and when you witness the temperature a SS tube can reach after just a few minuts or autofiring with a .5 ohms coil well... I can see lots of situations where this temperature could start a fire depending on what's around the mod. And then you also have a good chance of having the battery go into thermal runaway, which could actually mean flames bursting out of your mod.

That and even if gnomes are far fetched tiny gremlins have been known to push buttons randomly in pockets.

So completely understand how the OP feels. I usually have quite a few things in my pockets, and although the chance of a mod with a recessed button firing in my pocket is slim, it's still possible.

I had a simple solution for my 4Nine clone. I cut the bottom out of a 30ml bottle of juice. It makes for a perfect cap for the 4Nine. Should work with any other 22mm mod with a recessed button and no locking ring.

It is a good idea. If you keep your mod in your pocket, you don't really have to worry about some random event causing it to fire (i.e., as if it was stored loosely in a backpack), but in my experience, crouching with the mod in a pocket tends to cause many an accidental fire - when working outside/doing manual labor, for instance.

Any1 find the perfect cap piece? I haven't chopped a 30ml bottle but that seems a little big to me for the workhorse. Packing, that's easy, pull the battery. Pocket, not a problem...till its a problem and I hope you're not standing next to any1, especially me.

I'm not putting an unlocked mod in my pocket foSho.

I have some vinyl caps inbound now. 7/8" ID x 1/2". Safety cone orange - which I thought was appropriate, lol. Figured since I was the one who started this mess I should be the one to pony up some money. FWIW, I tried the 30ml juice bottle bottom and it was too big. Now, these things may also be slightly too big but it was as close as I could get. 22mm = .866 inches, 7/8" = .875 inches. I haven't mic'd the base of the Workhorse but if I had to guess, it's probably right on the money at 22mm.

Depending on how "pliable" these are, the button may still be at risk of accidental fire, I guess. But, it should give some level of protection and, at the very least, keep my pocket scuzz out of the switch.

I use a 4nine clone as my all day device. I ended up snagging a G-Case for it, as I was worried about this as well.

I like the Gcase, although it does kinda look like a lightsaber when clipped to my belt loop. I chose this one over the vapesox one because of the way the d-ring is attached. It has worked out well despite looking a little odd.
