It really was the Golden Age. So many people worked on improving hardware. And you're right - it was the forum at its best. So many members - new and old alike - posted there. I think many saw the potential in CE2s. Kind of a shame they got left in the dust with all the new stuff that's come out since then.

:offtopic: But while you're here......what do you think of all this cotton and rayon rewicking? I still have some reservations about trying these.

LOL I have 2 packs of the fluxomizers sitting right here!! Haven't tried them out yet.

Yeah... Those were Good Times. And they taught people Valuable Lessons.

Many/Most people today were not Exposed to Threads like the "Big Thread". And when they have a Problem, they are lost as to What might be the Problem. And how to Fix it.

As to Cotton and Rayon?

I have Tried Cotton. I guess it Worked Better than Silica Braided Wicks. But it Didn't seem to last very long. And it was More Difficult to get a Consistent Wick Density/Diameter.

But I didn't make all that Many wicks. And I'm sure that given More Time and Experimentation, I would have Developed Better Techniques.

As To Rayon.

Rayon kinda Scares me. Because Rayon is Not a Unique product. It is a Family of Semi-Synthetic Compounds.

So if one Members say they use Rayon and it is Great, what is to say that the Next Member with Obtain the Same Rayon? I also Question what Rayons do when they Break Down under Heat?

I would Feel Better if someone said they had done Specific Research on say Lyocell and, in their Opinion, felt it was Safe to use as a Wicking Material. But to Say that "Rayon" is OK gives me Concerns.

It's like Saying that "Plastic" Tube Clearos/Tubes are Safe/OK to use for e-liquids. When we know that this Isn't always the Case.

Because the term "Plastic" spans a Too Wide of a Range of Materials. And there are Some "Plastics" that Should Never be Used in Contact with e-liquids. Like the Entire Family of Polystyrene.

Some Rayon's may be Good Candidates Wicking Material. And some may be Very Bad Candidates. I just Don't Know.

You're so right - that thread was a wealth of information for people. And it was a lot of fun to read. I still remember the Cheetos.

I've noticed a lot of the time when someone posts a problem they get "recommendations" on other stuff they should be using and no real answers.:(

Thanks for the info. I keep seeing threads raving about cotton and rayon but I'm still not convinced of their safety as they're fiberous. All these years I've been using the regular atomizers/cartos with no problems. So I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Do you have a link for that info?

As far as I know, the end product is just cellulose, same as cotton, without the fertilizer and pesticides.

Here is some Basic info on Rayon.

Rayon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm sure that your Google Search will provide More Details about the Specific "Flavor" of Rayon that you are Using.

BTW - What Type of Rayon do you Use?

I am using the Graham Cellucotton.

Is there something specific that you see that I should be cautious of? All of my info has come from the rayon thread.

I think the Caution should be More in the Use of the Term "Rayon".

If I go down to a Fabric Store and buy White Rayon Fabric or Yarn, is that Good to Use as a Wick? Perhaps. Perhaps Not. Pure Rayon is Probably Benign as a Wick. But a Non-Pure Rayon may be a Blend of Synthetic Fibers.

From the Quick and Dirty Google Search that I did, it looks like Graham Cellucotton is 100% Cotton.

I thought you Mentioned that you are Using Rayon?

BTW - You what would be Cool?

If they Would take a Thread like that "Rayon Wick" thread and make a Condensed Version of it that has all the Banter and Off Topic Posts removed.

Hard for a New Person to read 3,500 Posts to Figure Out what is Going On.

Because inside that Thread is Probably 95% of the Questions and 90% of all the Answers that a person might want to know about Rayon Wicks.

Graham makes several products named Cellucotton unfortunately. Some of them say 100% rayon on the box. Jeremy is working with a moderator to get a revised first post or a sticky. He does warn against using anything intended for clothing. There are also medical suppliers that sell rayon balls that may give some people more peace of mind.

From your original post I thought maybe you had some info on rayon itself.

Gotcha

No. I haven't Read any Bad Side Effects about using Pure Rayon. Just some Confusing over What is products are Pure Rayon.(Kinda what I saw when I looked up Graham Cellucotton)

And which Products may say they are "Rayon". But in fact, they May Have other Fibers besides Rayon in them.
