I had two that needed replaced. Bought a soldering iron and flux. Never soldered before. It was all for naught when I could not melt the existing hot glue that held the spring. Trying to position the iron I ended up charring the edge of the Woodvil. It was sent to Robert, along with the other one. Came back perfect.

Anyone need a soldering iron? I don't think I will ever need it! For sure I will never again try to solder anything on a wood REO.

If you have ho glue under the spring base, touch the iron to the base then the spring solder point and it will release.

That can be easy IF there is not a lot of hot glue! The hot glue on mine was thick and even showed around the edges of the plate. That is why I ended up with the iron scorching the edge of the wood. I didn't touch the wood. The heat from the metal did.

On mine the heat from the soldering iron softened the hot glue and allowed the spring base to be lifted off with tweezers. It's easier if you can secure the Woody with a small soft jaw vice or something similar to free up both hands. Be careful that the black wire running under the spring is firmly in its channel before soldering in the new spring. You can fit a battery in there to hold the spring down snug before soldering the new spring in.

Once you build a couple 100 woodvils replacing a spring is cake some have hot glue under the springs . All the older woodvils had hot glue under the springs probably over kill and not needed but I tick like that . Anyone that has soldered before shouldn't have a problem take your time brush some flux on the solder joint it will melt quicker .
