Recycle batteries from broken Ego's kits

I wrote a post about my broken pass-through EGOs that has received no responses. Could be no one knows the answer to that. The post is here:

However, in trying to fix those egos I realized that most of them have their batteries still in very good conditions. Is the electronics that are shot.

Is there a way that I could salvage the batteries off those broken pass-through egos and use them for either an existing telescopic mod or a box mod I can build myself? It seems a pity to let all those batteries go to waste.

The batteries seem pretty standard is size and I can probably glue contacts at the poles so I can recharge them on a regular charger.

In a mechanical or a box mod with no protection? Not advisable. They are ICR chemistry batteries - the type that explode and go BOOM! without the protection circuit you will be removing them from. You need to protect them from going under voltage and from LR or shorts.

What device were you using on them? Dropping below 1.8 ohms can be enough to fry the protection circuit if pushed hard enough.

OP here. The devices I am talking about are Pass-through EgoT and I have been using them with Vivinova for the most time. Or with a similar but smaller clearomizer.

In any case, what happened to these passthrough is that the battery, when charged, is still outputting 4+ Volts, but nothing is coming out past the circuit for some of them. I also have 3 or 4 where I simply sat on them and took them apart in the process and now they are too mangled to solder back together.


I was basically wondering if there was a way to keep using the batteries. If not in a device I build (I'd like to keep all my digits) if it was possible to buy the electronics only and solder them in place of the broken/faulty ones.

Follow up question, Rick. I use Twists at 1100 mAh with a 1.8 Ohm nominal coil. Am I heading for trouble?

I used to use 1.8 ohms coils on 650 mAh non-VV eGos (my original starter kit) and on 650 and 900 mAh Twists. I got a few attys that were low one time and found the eGo batteries cut out at around 1.5 ohms I think. Never had any issues with attys that were close to 1.8. One of those original 650 mAh eGos is still going strong.

The cells need the circuit board for safety features to avoid them blowing up as Rickajho said and the charging function. I believe these are the ones if you need new boards, but they are not passthrough.

Thank you for the lead on those switches. Maybe I can find the Pass-though as well if someone is selling this kind. Otherwise, I assume I can still charge them the old fashioned way.
The other option would be to cannibalize the switch from the new one. In most of them after I sat on them and broke them in two, the switch also came apart. This switch looks a lot better and there may be a way to move it over the broken board. For less than $3 each is worth at least one try.
