Hello ECF,

While I was vaping I noticed that there was a red/orange burning light while looking down the cartomizer and drip tip. Does that mean my cartomizer is burnt out? I am no longer getting vapor or smoke.

Also, keep in mind I have only been using this cartomizer for about a day. I have an evic and I vape at about 8-9.5W consistently. Is this the reason why it burns out so quickly? I'm also using a 2.7 ohm cartomizer.

Please help!!! And thanks in advance.

Thanks,
Mark

That would be my best guess. I haven't tried punching cartos myself yet, only bought prepunched for the tank.

But it sure sounds like something is keeping the juice from getting in the carto from the tank.
The coil should be pretty well buried under the filler in the carto tho. So even if it's dry I think it would be hard to see the coil glowing, unless the filler got removed, or wasn't there to begin with.

Thanks for the help man. This is such a frustrating process, I've thrown two cartomizers away because of this issue.

Is anybody familiar with where to punch a hole in the cartomizer? Right now, I'm just using a hammer and a screwdriver to punch my cartomizers... is this a bad method? PLEASE HELP!!

Hey! Go to home depot or lowes and get a self tapping saddle valve (they're about $7). Look up a video on youtube on how to use the saddle valve to punch your cartos. Also, you can go to Ikenvape and get prepunched cartos. IMHO Ikenvape cartos are the very best. Vaping can be frustrating but its worth it and you'll get the hang of it. Soon you'll be a pro and you'll be fiddling with rebuildable stuff.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely be going to ikenvape for some new cartomizers once I'm through with the bunch I got. Hopefully I can fix this issue of punching holes in the cartomizers so that the 30 I bought don't go to waste. :glare:

Anymore tips or advice will be very handy! Especially what the exact cause of this orange light that's not allowing vapor to come through would be great.

First, how thick is your e-liquid? 70/30, 50/50, 100%VG?
Second, Are you soaking the Carto before filling the tank?

If the e-liquid is thick, more or larger holes may be needed.

The Carto should have about 30-35 drops of liquid soaked into it before using. Carto should look like a filled sponge.

1) I believe my liquid is 99.9% VG, so basically 100%.

2) By soaking, do you mean priming? If so, yes I do prime my cartomizer always, before using it. I'm not sure if I get the cotton completely soaked, but I prime it pretty well (I think...)

3) I will try making larger holes, do you think two holes would be necessary? I've been reading other threads and posts, and many people seem to like how two holes perform (one on top, one on the bottom).

Skip the saddle valve. They work, but can be a pain to install and position for punching. Purpose made carto punches can be had for the same $7. Check out Steam Monkey. I dont know what tank you have. here are the steps I use for punching on an AGR tank.

Screw carto to the base, Install punch on carto flush to the tank base( I punch on the base for 2 reasons. It helps keep the carto from deforming and makes sure the hole is high enough not to interfere with the base seal) Punch hole and turn screw 1/2-1 full turn after punching through wall. Rotate punch 180* and punch second hole that just goes through wall( This second hole acts more like a vent to let air escape faster during the initial fill. Using 100% VG as you do I would probably make the second the same size as the first) Remove punch and install tank. Fill tank and install cap, vent screw and drip tip. Set filled tank down and answer 1-2 posts on ECF(you must give the juice time to soak in. Warmer juice looses some viscosity, 3-4 seconds in the microwave on a 30ml bottle will let it flow almost like water) pick up and enjoy.

I have done a lot of error and trial to come up with this routine. I have misshapen cartos, burned filler, and damaged coils as errors on the way to discovering the routine that works 100% for the tank that I use. Good luck, dont give up.
