Just a little FYI for ya ...... for those of you that have the red switch, if you'd rather have a black one, fine tip permanent black marker is your friend ;) The lovely Gothic Rose chuck is now sporting a pretty black switch (had a red one a few hours ago). It's been on a few hours now and showing no signs of rubbing off ... works well :) Just thought I'd share .....

But what if we want a staples easy button on there instead?

I can't stop using my Chuck long enough to let the marker dry...LOL...Now I have black fingertips and a red button.

I did that a month ago and it all came off. I have a black Sharpie "Permanent" marker and I let it dry but a few hours later my button was red again. So is this really working for some of you? Like...in a permanent way? If not, somebody tell us what we can do short of buying a whole can of black paint! :D

I don't have one to look at closely but could you just carefully dip it in "Plasti-Dip" (liquid rubber). That'd not only cover the red but offer a slight amount of cushion?

Another option might be black nail polish (and who DOESN'T have some onhand?). If you've got a handy craft/model store maybe pick up a small bottle of paint (like Testors paint used on scale models).

The main thing would be how much room is there where the button shaft goes into the button housing (keep it clean people!). Anything that adds thickness might cause a problem?

I use Plasti-Dip to coat the bottoms of the felted slippers I make. I think it's a fabulous product but I also think it would be really difficult to coat the tiny button on a Chuck without getting it where you didn't want it as well. Maybe I just need steadier hands. :D

Luckily for me, I really like the red button on my Tweety Chuck so I'm not messing with it.

Well, couldn't it be brushed on? They also make spray on Plasti-Dip but that would require masking off everything else!
Yes indeed. I usually brush it on my felted objects rather than dip it. I have the spray too but it's very difficult to control. Brushing would be the way to go but the button is very tiny and Plasti-Dip is quite thick so the procedure would require an exceptionally fine brush, a damn good eye and a steady hand; in other words, more than I could muster. :p

For anyone willing to give it a go, Plasti-Dip comes in a variety of colors so you wouldn't be confined to black. :)

What about a "Push-On Round Cap"?:
McMaster-Carr

Or the toggle switch cover at the bottom of this page:
McMaster-Carr

These are nice looking but not designed to be easily removed (maybe a different version would work?):
Cubbys : Perth : Sydney : Melbourne : Brisbane : Adelaide : Canberra : Darwin : Hobart

These hinged screw cap covers would work if they were deeper?:
HINGED SCREW COVER CAPS 6-8G-BEIGE - HCC3 - DURATOOL
Shop The Hillman Group Hinged Screw Covers - Black 1/4 at Lowes.com
Screws 'n' Things Hinged Screw Caps
