This may not be the right place for this...& with the recent nic scare & issues...maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But I'm going to ask it anyway...

In your opinion...

What is the best way, from those that have done it or are doing it, to reduce your nic strength with your DIY?
With the goal of becoming 100% nic free? Did you reduce it by 4 each time?

What has worked for you?

What kind of affects did you have? Withdrawals etc

All of this BE issue has seriously made me want to go nic free. But as stated before, I do NOT want to risk going back to analogs...ever!
Ironically...analogs seem almost appealing atm.
I've spent more time, more money, more headaches nerves & agitation with vaping then I care to admit.
Filling cartos, filling tanks, charging batteries, buying this, buying that, DIY...& now testing nic. :glare:
Enough! (for me).

I know it may be different for everyone that has achieved being nic free, but some encouraging nic free words would sure be helpful. TIA :)

I started vaping almost 1 1/2 yrs ago, I started at 36mg .. a month later I dropped down to 24mg .. and a month after that dropped down to 18mg. Then 8 weeks later I dropped down to 12mg, then 8 weeks after that I went down to 8 mg and eventually down to 6mg, where I stayed for a long time.

Two weeks ago I did another drop .. down to 4mg, which is where I am now. My intention really never was to drop down to 4mg, but after having been at 6mg for a long time I decided to give it a try and I noticed no difference once I did it. The hardest drop for me was when I went from 18mg down to 12mg .. that one took me a week to adjust to. I dont intend to ever go to zero nic, it's probably just a psychological thing for me but I want to know I'm getting some nic.

I'd imagine there are as many ways to do it as there are vapers.

One of the reasons I started DIY was that it was difficult to find premade with more than 36mg, and I needed more at the beginning.

One of the great things about DIY is the control.

I would watch my consumption of juice at work. A 3ml bottle would sit at my desk with other, larger, bottles about my person. While at work I used only from that bottle. When I vaped less than 3ml, while at work, my next batches would be 2mg less. My juice consumption would shoot up when the new batches got into rotation, but slowly come down again.

Repeat as needed.

I am down to 20mg now, but it seems to be holding at this level a bit longer than it held at 36mg. But when consumption drops again, so will the nic content.

I do not know if I will ever get to 0mg, but I guess I will see...

I think the actual DEVICE you use is a BIG factor in this as well. Over a year ago, I started vaping 24mg. after a 23yr. pack-a-day habit. Using a small 510 type cig size battery, and later, eGo size... I would lower nic level every few months. When I tried to reduce my 12mg use to 6mg... it just wasn't very satisfying.
All that had changed once I began using a Variable Volt device and turned up the heat.
Now, I find it necessary to lower my nicotine to single digits! :)

I float between different strengths dependent on the day. My normal is 24, but I do vape anywhere from 36 to 12 depending on how im feeling. Before I got my nic I would order 24-36 and tone it down with some vg as well. I tired to stick with only 18 for a week or so, but I felt like it wasnt enough umph in the morning to get me going.

Been vaping 0mg nic for over 4 months now. Worked my way down from 18mg over a 5 month period. No particular plan to it either. I just started mixing a little less nic base into each new batch of 30-40 mL. That gave me about a week to 10 days' worth of vaping between batches. Each batch, I dropped nic level by 1-2mg. It was surprising that once my nic level was around 8 mg and below, there was not much noticeable difference between that and zero nic to me. No physical withdrawl symptoms like when I quit smoking. Just to be sure my nic wasn't going bad, I dripped some 18mg from my base stock and it kicked my ..... Knew it was time to just stick with 0. After smoking a PAD+ of Marlboro Lights for over 30 years, I was a happy camper.

It was and is very liberating to know that I don't have to worry about buying cigarettes OR nic juice anymore. BTW, I used (and still use) eGo/Rivas types almost exclusively the entire time. They work fine for me.

I was well and truly addicted to cigarettes and never thought I could quit. Vaping proved that I was mistaken. Then I thought I would never be able to vape without nicotine. I was wrong again! Its good to be wrong sometimes.

edit: Oh boy, now I'm quoting myself. This was supposed to just be an added bit to my original post and not a new one. Hit the wrong button. Thats what I get for posting when really tired.

I cut mine down 1 mg at a time.
I started vaping in March at 18 mg.
Soon discovered buying premixed juice was frustrating and expensive. so I started DIY.

When I got down to 12 mg I stayed there for a bit. I noticed that I was getting headaches from too much nic so I started alternating 0 nic during the day.
Got pretty aggressive about cutting back the nic again in August.
Every time a mixed a new batch of my 2 favorite flavors I cut back the nick 1 more mg.
I found when I got to 3 mg I no longer got headaches.

Then I mixed a few batches where I FORGOT to add the nic and didn't notice too much. Maybe just slightly crabbier than normal.
I spent most of September & October vaping .5 then .25 nic. After that I quit trying to measure the amount of nic.

The only thing i've noticed is that after I got to 3 mg I gained about 10lbs even though I'm eating the same. I lost weight when I first started vaping.
My typing/ writing has become even worse though I don't see how that's even possible given how bad it's always been.

I've been following the BE mess and am very glad I'm not buying nic anymore. I still have nearly 100 ml of 12 mg nic I got from NicVape months ago + A LOT of premixed with nic.

I just had to renew my health insurance at work and got to take a $80 a month deduction for being nic free. :)

It's worth it to get off the nic and I didn't find it an ordeal at all.

If I hear of new taxes or FDA regulation of liquid nicotine sales I might buy a small bottle of low strength nic just to be safe. Don't want to be tempted to buy analogs when a little nic will do.

Good luck.

I'm going to test myself for nicotine later. I'll post the results later if you like.

Sure Cookie. I'll take any info, and encouraging info I can get.

When I first started vaping early June (or July, I forget which), I bounced around trying to find a sweet spot that would kill the craving for that analog, mostly in the morning and after meals. I settled on 24mg for strong urge times, and 18mg as my all day maintain strength. I had already given up the 24mg before any of this nic scare was really brought to light because of headaches.

Thanks for your post! :) That's awesome the savings on your insurance! Congrats!
Even your weight gain sounds encouraging to me. I could use a few more pounds. lol
