i cant seem to use a drip tip with these hard cap ones even if i do get the cap off because theres a ring of plastic glued to the inside of the cart making the end narrower. is there a way around this?

and how can you tell, when youre purchasing cartos, which ones have soft caps? are there any places in canada that sell the soft cap 510 cartos?

You should be able to get soft caps on 510s fairly easily nowadays. In the description it should say soft-tip cartos, otherwise go elsewhere. I didn't know they still sold those hard tips anymore.

As far as the hard tips, if your really careful I have had some luck in removing them by putting the tip end in boiled water (or at least very hot water) for about 30-45 seconds and then try and pry them off. Just the tip end about the same depth as a standard tip - say 1/4 inch. It tends to soften the glue and make it a bit easier to remove. Also I use a box cutter type knife and scrape around the inside of the carto and the hard glue comes off. Watch out as it sort of snaps off the inside and can fly out at you. Wear safety glasses if you have them.

That ring of plastic comes right out too, that one shouldn't be glued in there, comes out pretty easy. Then you can put your drip tip right in there. Should be listed on their website if they are soft cap or not, hope this helps!
