Refinished my black mini tonight.

I loooooove it! The teardrops are fantastic. I would love to have that shaded look in the teardrops on my satin minis.

After taking it apart I just folded a piece of 500 grit sandpaper (wet) around it and held it very tightly and just spun the tube , then flipped it around and did the other half. Then i went to 600 and then 1000. After the 1000 it had very distinct brush lines in it. It looked good but I wanted a more satin look. So then I used a scotch brite pad to soften it a bit.

The tear drops are a little more faded and not as black looking because of the scotch brite pad, I like them like that though.

When I look at it really up close I'm not 100% happy with it. There are small spots I could have done more evenly. But I'll wait a month or so for it to beat up a little and then I'll give it another go.

I think it's excellent - I was thinking you had some special equipment - that sandpaper would have gotten into the tears, and not uniformly - but they look pretty darned perfect. Nice job.

That looks fantastic! Great job with it. I, too, thought sandpaper would get into the tear drops, but it really looks amazing.

I kept the sandpaper pulled very taught so it didn't have a chance to get in to the tear drops. As I said the scotch brite pad did a bit.

I've been thinking about doing "something" to my new polished ProVari to get rid of the slippery feel of it. Maybe turn it into a satin silver, have it powder coated a custom color I like, or? I have a lathe and all the supplies to change the finish with precision easy enough, or to prep it for painting.
