Based on your explanation of what happened, I can only hazard a guess...
I can imagine scenarios where the wick might get built up gunk on it, just like the wick that the coil is wrapped around.
And if that built up gunk on the wick gets too thick, it could block airflow to a significant extent.
Again this is just a guess.

Yep. The wick that actually can be removed looked like a strand of a hot tar mop that had been used. That part came out quickly, and truthfully, may not have even needed to be debridged, but I digress. I don't use those NETs anymore though because I didn't like them enough to go through all of that. Part of the reason I didn't like genesis attys was because my favs didn't taste good in them. People said, "try fruits," or "try desserts," but changing my food to enjoy the skillet is not an option. Luckily I still have plenty of juices that I enjoy way more than W2V.
