I was just wondering if any of you had any relapses and what triggered it. Sounds like an alcoholic anonymous question. I recently had to my pet down and I that triggered my relapse. Smoked 1/4 a pack last night and 2 cigs today. Still better than the 1.25-1.50 packs a day I used to smoke. I made a consciousness decision about 4 hours after putting dog down to go buy 2 packs of smokes.

I'm trying to get back on track. I was just curious if anyone else had relapses; what caused them; and how they got back on track.

I'm not blaming myself this was a hard time and expect to be off real cigs soon again. I'm just curious what has made you fall off the wagon and how did you deal with it?

Don't be hard on yourself. It was hard for me to switch totally from analogs. Now that I have, I haven't looked back (yet) but that doesn't mean that at some point in time, I won't - everyone is human. We support you. You'll kick it! And I agree with TJ - focus on your success - you'll definitely feel more positive. I'm sorry to hear about having to put your pet down.

Everyone makes mistakes now and then, it's ok. I'm really sorry to hear about your pet. I know how hard that can be and it really sucks. They become part of the family. Keep your head up and you'll get back on track! Just don't beat yourself up. Every cig you don't smoke is a small victory!

Ya pets, losing jobs, super bad days and to be blunt changes in meds. I think the 'shame' associated with relapse often kept me in the unsafe behavior. Now I just try and learn from it and move on. Hubby smokes and then vapes, does both, thinks I don't know, vapes again. It is all good. Give yourself a break.

We have 5 dogs, we rescue and they are like family to us. Even knowing nothing prepares us. Sorry for your loss, be kind and gentle to yourself.

Don't beat yourself up over this.... it was a stressful time but you are not giving up.... That's a great attitude. Hop back up on that wagon and we will be here to support you along the way!!!

We are a house of animal lovers, with 2 cats and 2 african love birds at the moment. And we have had the loss hit us too. I had watch my 27 pound 3 foot long red tabby die about 2.5 years ago, and my smoking about tripled for a week. I have good news for you though, good can come from bad.

My reasoning? Dedicate your quitting and staying of of smoke to your fallen comrades memory. Every time you want to pick up a ...., spend 5 minutes reflecting on some of your best memories while slowly having a few easy vapes. You'll be amazed at what a booster to your willpower this can be, and it helps get me through the tough times when I want to blaze one off. Have the urge to smoke? Imagine your friend looking at you telling you how well you are doing staying off the bad stuff. Draw your strength from where you are strong, not weak, and all will be well. The body obeys the mind, not the other way around. And we are here for you too.

When I seperated from my wife the first thing I did was buy a pack of stinkies I was back to over a pack a day withen the first week. I have relized how stupid this was and am now back on track and down to 4-5 smokes a day. But I'm able to invist my new found windfall of cash and time to dive into rebuidables.

It's amazing how much extra cash and time you have when you don't have someone else sucking it up. What a total life drain that marriage was. Life is good now! And the stinkies are almost out of my life again. And I'm almost off the smokes too.:D

Oh wow, sorry to hear that Mohamed. I know you'll get back on the wagon, regardless of any detours you have to take to get there.

I would have an extremely difficult time of it if we had to put our dog down. I've had to do it once before and cried like a baby. I can only imagine how much stress would be involved if I had quite smoking just before putting him down. Good luck my friend, sounds like your dealing with it in your own (best) way.

Regards,
Chas

I am very sorry to hear about your dog!
And if the cigarettes helped you in your grief, then you did what was right for you, to comfort you in your time of sorrow.

Do not blame yourself, please.
Every cigarette not smoked is a good thing for your health.

The pain will dull with time. Trust me. I buried a (younger) family member three years ago.
Take up your vaping gear, and just pick up where you left off. Get some really nice, tasty liquids, something you enjoy, give yourself a little treat. You deserve it now. And it will do you good.

Rome was not built in a day. And most of us did not stop smoking tobacco in a day.
Just pick up where you left off. And you will do just fine.

And I know, in my heart, that your dog made a last will and testament

I've certainly had mine even when I was still smoking but limiting myself to x-number a day I would "relapse" by going over the limit. It happened to me with upset and there are ongoing reasons for that with the medical condition of my loved one. What worked for me was just making a deal with myself. IE: I could still smoke whenever I wanted to but I HAD to vape first before having a smoke and that rule was unbreakably written in stone. Then I just let things happen naturally from there.

Please, please do not look at it as if you "relapsed." You're a vaper now, just keep vaping while you smoke your cigarettes and you'll soon realize you enjoy the vaping more than the smoking. Cigarettes are not "evil," they don't have a distinct personality that will put chains around your neck enslaving you in despair.

Yep, it happens--probably to more people than you think. See my sig? I won't offer up my reasons for falling off the wagon--twice. No reason is worse or better than another one, but what matters is whether you give up on quitting or not. :)

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you're able to get past it--anja is right--sometimes after the initial pain has passed getting a new pet is the best thing to do for yourself. It happened to me, and I thank God every day He brought two new furbabies into my life. Couldn't live without 'em.

Smoke if you have to, vape the rest of the time. The rest will take care of itself.

Don't be too hard on yourself....you had a slip - it happens. Certainly any death would trigger a slip for me. I just know that. When I had to put my dog down a few years ago, it was literally the worst thing I ever had to choose to do and it hit me like a tsunami. I was grief stricken and nothing would comfort me. I understand. And it's okay. Vaping is a new lifestyle addition and sometimes we just want what we are familiar with. It's okay. Really. Seriously, I don't think I would be as successful kicking analogs and purely vaping if it was not for my local store and this community. How about picking a new flavor in honor of your furbaby? Vape that when you are grieving and it will soon become associated with the continuing love you have for a lost pet. Please don't beat yourself up and please know that there are people who truly understand here and do not judge. Just keep posting, keep vaping....and keep knowing that you are right where you need to be.

3 ½ years ago we had to put down our last dog. He was my pride and joy, the love of my life, my shadow for 13 years. I couldn’t get over it and finally had to accept that I never would.

Mohamed, please, please don’t beat yourself up. I’m one of those ex-smokers who can’t stand the smell of cigarettes, whine, whine, whine and I know that if I was in your place and we had to put our new dog down, despite the complete PITA that he is (she says half laughing), I’d do the same as you did though I’d have bought three packs and smoked every last one of them. It’s a survival mechanism not a “relapse.” You have enough on your plate without blaming this on yourself. Your dog was very, very lucky to have somebody who cared so much. I actually admire you for your “relapse,” you love your dog and that is always a very good thing. You will go back to 100% vaping, just make sure you are ready too and do not punish yourself over it. Words can never convey how sorry I am for your loss. Take care.

Sorry to hear about your dog.
But I quit smoking 3 days after vaping. But then 3 months later...
So yeah, despair, anxiety and depression will do it.

I smoked RYO before as I couldn't stand regular cigarettes (hadn't had one for ten years before I started vaping and quit smoking RYO).
But one bad night when I had too many problems and couldn't sleep and wanted to die, I went for a walk and bought a pack of cigs.
I didn't want to get RYO tobacco because that is what I was used to and I might be tempted to use them for a while/dual use as RYO tobacco would last me a long time, so I got a pack of cigs I thought I'd hate and smoke 2 a night for a week or something.
