Removing Bottom "ring" on 801

I didn't want to bother Rob with this so maybe someone remembers. Rob, I think, has a video demonstrating how he removes the bottom "ring" on an 801 atty. It's for increased air draw. Yesterday, for the first time, a new IKV 801 standard had a tight draw out of the box. I got some small nippers out and trimmed the very bottom to expose the two air holes but then I had to file the edge because it was jagged and bend out the rim to open the holes a bit more. Too much work especially as I got these, a few months ago, for less than $2 a piece. (Isaac clearing out stock for new ones coming in.) I picked up 20 of them.

Anyway anybody know where to find the video of Rob doing this?

I don't know about that, but I bought some too and got a mini pipe cutter. Cut off 1 1/4" on them and they are even better. Just sayin.

Yeah, me too. Making my own Semi size that I like better than the Mini size. A while back I cautioned about not opening the crimped cut end too much because it is easy to widen them a bit but really hard to close them back down if widened too much. The one that I opened up too much (folks we are talking about the top of the tube that, when cut, to make the standard shorter, crimps the top edge so that an 810 DT won't fit unless top is widened out a bit) I use a Super T 801 tube to 510 DT adapter, held on with a thin strip of clear silicon stretch tape. It stayed on through three boilings.

That was certainly one heck of a deal. I really like the 801s for many reasons AND they are one tough atty. I have some that have been in rotation for about 7 months.

Here you go Alice it helps to open the air inlets a little I use a small screw driver and twist . I rarely use 801s these days but I was a 801 man for along time.
