I recently got the Big Baby Beast tank. I tried the .4 ohm coil and it lasted 3 days with the pin hole trick. I came across this video and was wondering if anyone has tried this and if so what are your results? I bought another Q2 just to try this. Is there a reason I should not?

I don't see why not. The only way to know if it will work for you is by trying it but it doesn't seem unsafe or anything. The worst thing I could see happening is that it may shorten coil life, not increase it, although of course it's equally possible the reverse may happen, so there isn't much to lose by trying it on ONE coil and seeing the results you get.

You realize that removing the outer wall cotton isn't going to do anything except possibly allow your coil to flood, right?
The coil you have and those like it, are constructed of an outer wall, cotton, inner wall, cotton then the coil.

Sure you can try it. But if you're only getting a few days out of those coils, there are other approaches to consider. Are you properly priming and breaking the coil in? Are you using really super gunking juice? Are you running the coil with more wattage than needed to still satisfy you?
I'd review those things first as they're easily corrected without requiring coil surgery. I can get usually a few weeks out off just that coil with a 70/30 6 mg juice not overly sweetened at 40W. Granted we're all different, but it might be something to consider.

My first thought was in spite of this video showing a supposedly successful procedure, how many "failures" would it take to diminish or even eliminate the benefits?
I'm in agreement with @Eskie and have wondered how many people having "short" coil life, for whatever reason feel compelled to run them at or near the top end of the wattage range.

Thanks for the replies. As Anna said, " There isn't much to lose by trying it." So I went ahead and done it. The cotton was easy enough to remove. I have been using the coil for about 24 hours running at 47.5 watts and so far so good. The coil has not flooded, there is no leakage, no gurgling, and no spit back. The coil does seem to drink a little more juice compared to an unmodified coil. I will come back and post again on day three if the coil lasts that long.
It may be the juice I am using. It is a heavily sweetened juice 80/20 3mg. I am sure I prime and break my coils in properly and I tend to run my coils on the low end of the recommended wattage range. I like my old Crown tank and I usually get 7-10 days out of one of the .25 coils. I feel like I should get about the same out of one of the Q2s. The resistance on the Q2 is higher and I run it at about the same wattage as the .25 Crown coils because I have to in order to get the same vapor production. So that may have something to do with it.
Well, it's day three and the coil is still going. I have had a couple of dry hits today which is a sign that the coil is reaching the end of it's usefulness. I think removing the cotton has extended the lifespan of the coil, but I do not think it will last another week as stated in the video. I think I might get another two days out of it. I will post again when the coil goes kaput.
From what I understand bro these coils when they get manufactured by the smok company they make them so fast they end up packing so much cotton in the coil in which the coil can't wick properly I have the smok vape pen 22 and I get dry hits all the time so I take something sharp and start to pick the cotton oit but not to much because it'll cause the device to leak hope this helps
Okay, so I got about 5 1/2 days out of the coil. I noticed little black specks in the liquid. I took the coil out and it was gunked up. So I assumed the black specks were from that or from burnt cotton. The coil might have lasted another day, but I went ahead and tossed it. So, does this method increase the life of the coil? Yes it does but not by a week. At least not for me. You might get an extra 3 or 4 days by removing the cotton.
So far I've gotten 3 days and it's still going strong I'll keep you updated man
