I have this horrible tendency to work renaissance faires. Unfortunately, an electronic device really doesn't look good in period-correct clothing, and so when I quit smoking, I realized rather quickly that I had to come up with an alternative. The problem is that a Renaissance-period pipe is a small clay pipe, usually not much bigger than a fingertip-sized pipe bowl. I could do a slightly larger variation, but not by a whole lot.

So I sat and thought, and I thought and sat. And finally, I realized that hey, I had these Joye 510's sitting around that I hadn't used since the beginning of my vaping habit (not, mind you, that it's all that long ago, but it seems like forever).

My original thought was to form a polymer clay pipe that would be wide enough for me to hide the body of the 510 inside of it. I did not take into effect the fact that polymer clay shrinks, and this left me with a pipestem that was a little too narrow to fit the mini into it fully, and I couldn't get it far enough in to get the button into the hole I'd left on the bottom of the pipestem. Oops.

However, I still think that this will work, although I'll disguise the rest of the mini with some leather for visual effect. And so I thought I'd share what I came up with. It's not elegant, but for the purposes of period reenacting, it'll do. And in all reality, the length with the rest of the mini jutting out the back end of the pipestem is actually a preferable length, to me... so once I've prepped the leather cover for the back part, it ought to work just fine. (Now I just have to pick up a 510 tank atty and some tanks, because there is NO freaking way I'm going to use the cartridges for Faire. Ugh. Talk about torture. The tanks'll be bad enough. I'm going to miss my VV mods at Faire!)

Have you considered maybe doing a mod pipe that only contains an atomizer and switch inside the pipe portion and is kept on a lanyard that conceals the wire running to a large battery pck and voltage control elsewhere on your person (like in a leather pouch hanging from your belt)?

*edit* How rude of me: the housing you made to disguise the 510 looks awesome and should work very well.

Not rude at all -- I love the idea. I haven't developed the skills yet to wire something of that sort, but y'know, I LIKE the idea, so I'll chat with my husband and see if between the two of us, we can't come up with something like that. I have to admit, I hate using the 510's because I'm one of those people who greatly dislikes atomizer taste, and to me, all I seem to GET is atomizer taste, even using some of my more potent juices. This will work for this Faire season, though, and that'll give me a year to develop something further for next year. :)

I tend to be a tank person, so if I can develop something that incorporates one of my Phiniac tanks, I'd be even more pleased. That... may take a little bit more doing, however. I'd considered actually just boring a long hole down the top of a walking stick and enclosing a lavatube in it, with a plug-type "button" on the side. It wouldn't look like an Elizabethan era pipe, but it would certainly provide me the option of longer battery life and the ability to use my tanks.

Excellent work! Great idea repurposing those old unused batts. Post photos again when you finish your leather cover.

I actually ended up using it opening weekend of Faire without the leather cover, and it didn't look completely out of place, provided that when it wasn't in use, the 510 batt was tucked into my spinning basket -- time got sparse in preparing other stuff. However, I can definitely see some serious modding coming throughout the year to come. :)

The leather cover will be forthcoming soon.... well, soon enough, anyway. :)
