yup!!.... it certainly saves wear and tear on thee old finga's :)

I did infact post that vid in the ever so big and growing 'micro coil' thread prob about two month's back but i dont think it had much interest apart from from a nice guy that post's often over there called 'MacTechVpr'

He explained to me that he had done some research and read things from others doing research and testing and to get a perfect tensioned coil that has wraps 'welded' to each other plus 'wire memory' takes about 100 pounds of newton force
Hence the reason some are building coil wrapping tensioning mech gadgets to perfect it

Most people can keep 100 pounds of newton force on the wire by hand/arm force alone but to keep that tension constant to get the wire wrapped perfectly is quite hard to do, i dont think its impossible as i have a technique of wrapping 26g by hand with only a mandrel that after its been wrapped looks like the outer edge of the wire has been flattened but its not very kind to my hands or circulation

How far do you want to take it and how much difference do you actually notice
Me personally, i dont really see any dif in supertight tensioned wrapped coil's to coils wrapped either freehand or by the method in the vid but that doesnt mean there is or isnt a difference

Another thing Mr MacTechVpr said was that the vid method is 'Forming'... i agree with him to a certain extent but it also depends on if you just 'Form Tension' the same coil once or twice etc as the second time takes more pressure to form

R41 though acts totally dif to kanthal and nichrome and has a lot of spring and memory, is very hard to form But use the vid method and you get very tight wraps that you cant see through :)

hope that helps anyone and if you anyone wants to add or comment your welcome:)

Thanks for the linky. I'll have to give that a go sometime. Lately I've been just holding the spool between my knees and pulling on the wire as I spin the drill bit.
Wish is heard of this tension business months ago!

I think people are just going a bit crazy... I perfected my ideal vape long ago during the initial surge into "artistic" coil builds... I have no desire to keep chasing that unicorn. I just enjoy my vape. A lot of my builds get changed every 2-3 weeks. This is simply to quell the urge to build, not because it needs one.

theres only so much noticeable difference you can make.. when i moved from the iclear to rba that was the biggest hit, that was a definite in your face

Moment!

if i got to a point where i couldnt wrap coils with my hands i would learn to do the same as you and use my feet ;) or even if i went and wrapped 30 coils now they'd last a few years, the majority of us are keeping the wire companies etc in business just for the sake of it & getting bored and wanting to check we can still do the magic:?:

for some reason all i can picture now is cave men running around testing fire making skills and showing each other how magic they are  ... dont ask ... i've lost it

i think i know what you mean by 'not kind to your circulation'.
i often will wrap a coil around a drill bit by hand, starting by pinching the wrapping lead with my thumb and pointer. i maintain hard tension the entire time i wrap, without letting that initial finger pinch budge. i end up with the excess wire wrapped around my finger, cutting off circulation (lol), but the coil is perfect! i then hold the coil together with my other hand as i free my finger from the coil tourniquet. i oughta just buy a mandrel but i kinda like my method
