egrets yes you can sand under the spring of a hammer tone. How bad is the arcing? All mechanical electrical connections arc to some degree.
It's not crazy bad but enough that my battery pitted on the positive contact just for little of use. Reason I'm confused is that with the same batteries, atty, one Reo has no arcing, the other has. I might just have to buy a new set of batteries for that Reo as soon as I get paid. I noticed that if I use the pitted batteries in the Reo that's fine, it would start arcing also...
Thanks for your help :)

Nice.
My Reo that just come back from the spa is arcing back again. I remembered to put deoxit gold as soon as I receive it as well as on the batteries that were not arcing on the other Reo. Rob said everything's fine and he tightened the spring screw for me. Just out of idea...might have to just keep that one as a spare/backup..

First take off the door with on both REO's and watch as you push the button. See if the contact is hitting the battery the same. See if it is going all the way down and touching the battery the same. You can also remove the batteries and watch as you push down the button. Both should extend down past the delrin the same.

IF you use a button cover sometimes it can be forced down so much that it impedes the contact from moving down enough. Having the one REO that just came back in good working condition start sparking tells us that your problem is occurring because the battery and contact is not giving a good connection.

Anyone know if the hammertone finish can be sanded out under the spring? I did that to my black wrinkle Reo but not the hammertone. Just thinking what's the difference between the two Reos as the hammertone one is the one that's having problems...
If it were ME, I would sand it down, under the spring area, to the bare metal. It won't hurt the looks. You can't see it with the door on it anyway. Put Deoxit under the spring, and even in the screw hole, and the screw. (plus the top of the spring) I don't know if you could put it on the whole spring, or not. I haven't been using a Reo very long at all.

I'll do it as soon as I'm off work.

The purpose was to watch as you push the button down on each. You didn't need to remove the delrin. You need to see how the contact touches the battery when the firing button is pushed. The REO should be all put together when this is done. IF there is a difference in how they are arching or not you should be able to see it when you push down on the button .

Pic is Baylee and Sam, both together at the rainbow bridge. :(
So sorry to hear this ((((((((((Tracey))))))))) beautiful pic!!

Sorry didnt know that. My mistake
Took me a minute to figure out what was going on, but I did. No worries, don't let that stop ya from posting here, I'm sure most of us have done it either without knowing at first, or without thinking. But yeah, just a courtesy.

I'll try the fingertip suggestion to see if it helps. I have the deoxit gold pen
Since you're using the pen, no need to use your finger. I was thinking about the tube that I have. Karen can for sure help ya!

Thanks all. But the one with button cover actually is the one that's working fine with no arcing...I also tried putting the button cover on the hammertone but it still arcs.
I'll try to remove the paint under the spring of the hammertone to try to get it fires with less arcing. Both fire buttons hit the battery at about the same place.
I'm pretty sure it's user error though, just need to figure out what. It wasn't arcing when I first received it off the classified.
