reo mini battery question

I searched around couldnt find an answer, i want to order some new batts for my mini, obviously they will be AW IMR batts, my question is what is the difference between 14500 and 14650? which is better for LR attys?

14500's will fit, the 14650's will NOT... The difference is the 14500 is 50mm long, the 14650 would be 65mm long.

FWIW, battery "numbers" are supposed to tell you the dimensions of the battery (in mm's).

E.G., 14500= 14mm wide X 50mm long (the 0 at the end means it's round)
18650= 18mm wide X 65mm long, etc.

That said, manufacturers don't always take into account the 2mm that a protection circuit adds to the length, but that's how it's supposed to work, anyway.

Just for future refference;

Here's how to "read" the lithium ion cells...

First two numbers denote diameter, second two length, the last one "0" denotes it is a cylindrical lithium battery...
i.e. 14500 is 14mm in diameter, and 50mm long.

I must add to this that the battery length is very important. The REO's have a collapsible spring. That means that in case of a short they will collapse and the battery will no longer be in reach of the firing pin.

When longer than recommended batteries are used this safety function is disabled. The battery will still connect and might cause further damage to the REO.

So, in a nutshell, do not compress the spring with a long battery!
