what i meant was the chemicals might eat the stuff around the 510 connector and then you'd have no choice but to send it in. So I was saying check with Rob to see if he thought it would damage that stuff.

oh! I'm half-way done, I'm using a paint removal compound and the paint just peels out after 10 minutes

the inside of the reo or the inside walls cup at the exterior I'm not touching (you wont see the detail once you have your atty installed(

But it's coming VERY NICELY, I'm undecided about polishing with 2000 grit now, kinda like the raw look

I would start with 120 grit then step down (or up in this case) to 220 then 500 then 700 depends on how smooth you want it. if you want to polish it...that when the real fun begins. The higher you go with the sand paper the easyier it is to polish. but polishing aluminum is nice but it will show scratches really easy do to it being soft metal.

This.

Yeah it's going to scratch, but that's what sandpaper does. Unless you want to spend a month getting the paint off, start with 80 or 120. Then work up from there depending on your desired level of polish. Aluminum is really soft, so you will be amazed at how fast the scratches come out as you move up the finer grits. Wet sanding up to 1000 or 1200 will take you about as far as you can go without going to a polish like Mother's. In my experience having done this same thing a few months ago, this whole process is best for a beater / EDC Reo, because a polished raw Reo gets scratched if you look at it sideways. I love the way mine looks, but it's not going to win any beauty contests. It's nice and rugged and is perfect for banging around the cupholder or "ashtray" of my work truck.

i bought a raw grand. You have no need to sand it - just polish it with Mother's Magnesium polish if you like. I left the door on mine alone just for the contrast.

ok, this is what I got in about 2 hours of work in and out (apply paste, wait 10 or so minutes, wipe with smooth absorbent paper, NO SANDING whatsoever. That's also the compound i used (sorry, I'm in south america, so spanish product, doesn't state the chemical, now I'm debating on whether or not polishing it to a shining mirror (should I start with 2000? 1600? 1200 grit?)
