You might want to check the feeding tube in your REO. The way your tube is set up it is possible that the opening of the tube is sucked against the side wall of the bottle, resulting in empty squonks.
I try to keep the tubing hanging about a millimeter (or a tad, a hair or two bleeps) above the base of the bottle. To adjust that, you can remove the bottle, hold on to the tube with one hand while gently pushing up (or pushing down in your case) the bottle cap a few millimeters.
