A little confused. I put a newly charged battery on the 20 where the outside letter is V, and it is reading 4.2 so I assuming I did this correctly. Then I checked a slightly used battery at the same setting and it read 4.0, so again I'm assuming I'm doing this correctly.

Now, when it comes to the atomizers, this is where it's a little confusing. First and I'm sure this will sound stupid, but I do take the atomizer OFF the e-cig to test, right?

Then, putting the setting where it shows (on mine) a musical note, putting one of the probes in the threaded end and the other probe just slightly into the atomizer I get a screeching noise and it reads .002 or .003. If I move the setting just slightly to the next setting next to the musical note which is 200, it reads between 3.3 and 3.5. So is that what I'm wanting? The setting that is quiet (no screeching) but reads 3.3 to 3.5...it doesn't really hold still on any number, kinda goes back and forth between the 3.3 and 3.5.

Any help is appreciated, am I doing this right?

Hi, Sharon,

Right - test with the atty off the batty. :D

If you'll post a link to the page you bought the meter from, I could be more specific, but yes, I think you want the scale around the musical note. A reading between 3.3 and 3.5 Ohms indicates the atty is okay inside.

But a battery on the "V" scales, which are voltage, could also read around 3.5 to 4.2 volts. (The battery would have to be activated somehow.)

And I usually test on the battery thread end, but I just checked, and touching the center (on the threaded end) and touching inside the barrel also works fine.

Antebellum, thank you for the reply and explaining how to use the multimeter. It still sounds confusing to me. Do you think its worth it to have one? I have short circuited
2 screwdrivers...I wish I knew if it was bad atomizers, or bad batteries, or bad ME? LOL
Maybe I had the body screwed on too tight? I'm afraid to buy more bad parts from China.
And I really think I'm going to cry if I ruin a 3rd one!

Hi, Adopted,

Well, you really don't have to order one from China. Go to the tools department at Wal-mart and pick one up for about $10 or less. It's certainly good to have a meter around the house and car.

Hmm... all the atty failures I've seen so far have been broken wires - no continuity/open circuit. I supposed an atty could fail to a dead short, but I'd think the battery smarts would shut them down if that happened.

I don't have any experience with Screwdrivers, but Trog seems a good sort. He'll fix you up.

yes take off atm to test the atm, center post with a hole to the threaded side of the atm to read ( listen musical screeching) then on SD with atm off carfully ( need three hands ) touch center post (the air flow hole ) with probe then useing the other probe touch the threads then if no screeching press the button on the SD, should get a screech
sorry to jump in here, i just dropped my SD and i was changing the the battery so it was empty, i was standing and the atm punched thru, i`m so sad. have two minutes ago e-mailed trog and i hope it is fixable...

i just in the last week put a red button in my SD, and i tried to put the atm in and i get no continuity, some kind of eletrical epoxy for outer atm connecter...i want some to epoxit to my hand...
and dont the batterys stop at 3.6Vdc?, ie: needs a charge? my vapor production starts getting low at 3.7Vdc and seem to stop at 3.6Vdc ( i got 6 batterys)

though it is unlikely, the short could be caused by the sd itself. If the grommet (little plastic ring like thing, ) that the positive atomizer contact rests in is damaged, then it will short the battery regardless of whether an atomizer is connected or not. this is EXTREMELY unlikely on two screwdrivers (or even one actually, as im sure they are tested before shipped out), but if the battery shorts with multiple atomizers, then that could be the problem. with the multimeter, using the ohm setting, place one prob on the small little silverish thing in the middle of contact where the atomizer fits in, and the other on the metal ring (if you have a black screwdriver, this is the only silver part of the sd). your meter shouldn't budge, but if it does then that has been causing your battery to short. I wouldn't even bother doing this, because it is SO unlikely. But following what others have said it's always a good idea to test your atomizers before using them, and be sure NOT to screw them in tightly, as this may damage the grommet of either the SD or the atomizers. Thinking about it, if so many atomizers caused battery shorts, I suspect that you have been screwing in the atomizers too tightly causing them damage. If that isn't the case (not trying to accuse you of anything), then you are really unlucky in regards to the atomizers you've received >.<
