Sorry this is a total noob question, do I get notified when posts have been made to threads I've posted in, I want to keep track any questions I've asked,

For that, you need to go to your posts, click on "whats new"(top of page) and a drop down will display, click on "my posts" and it will highlight the threads you have posted in. Hope that helps
You can also click on thread tools at the top of the thread & choose "subscribe to this thread" form the drop down list & in your settings, choose how you want to be notified.
To automatically subscribe to threads you have created or posted in first click on settings in the top right corner. Then on the left side click on general settings and you should see something to the right for "Default Thread Subscription Mode:". If you select "Through my control panel only" you can just click on quick links at the top of the page and select subscribed threads to show them.

I primarily use the "What's New - My Posts" link instead of Subscriptions. There is also a "Quick Links - My Threads" link on the right side of the Forum menu bar which will only show threads you created (v. My Posts is any thread you have posted in). From both of these views, if it's bold, you have unread responses.
It took me too long to find these short-cuts on my own - so good question out of the gate.
Edit: Subscriptions work too. You can set the default to subscribed in your profile, or modify the Subscription setting at the bottom of the options when starting a new thread. From an existing thread, select Thread Tools - subscribe. I don't want email notices and I still have to go to the Settings page to view subscription activity so I prefer to manage with My Posts.
