Hi ECF,
First thread, long time lurker, +1 year long vaper breaking post-shyness tonight.
So my coworker wants to quit smoking and switch over to ecigs. Problem is, in the past, she has made unsuccessful attempts with various eGo devices which were ultimately unsatisfying for her. She knows what ecigs look like that actually put out, but is turned off by the 18650 tube and box shaped mods. Let's be honest, this stuff we love can get a little ridiculous looking for those who are unfamiliar with the whole thing.

Maybe I am not asking for assistance as much as I am venting.

Here goes...

Why isn't there a humbler looking device that performs? Why aren't 14500 devices or smaller form factor batteries more common? Why does the best performing entry-level device Aspire nautilus look like a space ship? Why can't there be a satisfying entry-level setup on the market that doesn't look obnoxious, strange, or unusual? Is it that much of a pain to make something simple and elegant? There is likely a surprisingly large market for it.

In order to switch from smoking cigarettes, I had to hold a device in my hand with a relatively strange appearance and honestly in the beginning I felt stupid. I loved what I got out of it, but I just felt silly holding this thing in public. Granted I got over that and now I own a plethora of much sillier looking things :D

But I feel like that is a part of the market that hasn't been focused on: adults who want a cigarette alternative that doesn't look like they're having a mid-life crisis.

Hi and welcome to participating in the ECF.
I get what you're saying. Have you thought of suggesting something that really works and doesn't look too silly - like an eleaf istick 50 or Cloupor mini with an atlantis tank. These are small enough that they don't stand out like a 26650 tube mod or a sigelei 150 Watt box mod does and can still provide clouds of satisfying vapor and you can get the pair for under $100 with some liquid.

Can't get much more humble than that. Show her the purple one.

Then get the Aspire Nautilus Mini and the T replacement tank for it. Not only will it not look like a spaceship, but far less likely to break if she drops it.

30W of power, the performance of the Nautilus, in a compact size that's easy to carry and use.

Welp, since she's not here asking herself it's kind of hard to "intuit" what someone who isn't here may like.

As far as 14500 devices go... When eGo size batteries came into play there wasn't going to be much difference to be had in performance between an eGo battery or a device that held a 14500 battery. It's "day late and a dollar short" now, but one of the nicest was the Precise Simplicity 14500 by Super-T Manufacturing - which is no longer in the vape gear business.

The timing of Super-T stopping production was unfortunate because AW just came out with a 9 amp 14500 battery. But Reosmods is coming out soon with a re-release of their 14500 mini, which is a bottom feed box that can be used with stock cartos, attys or a single coil bottom fed RDA. I don't know if I could call it "elegant" but it sure as hell is small - smaller than a business card - with no top heavy tank dangling off it. And with a 9 amp 145600 and a single coil RDA I certainly would expect it to perform. Indestructible things.

Good call on the Nautilus replacement tank, I had not seen that one before, just the cagey-looking ones. I just hate the idea of someone who wants to switch over who faces obstacles that I feel the industry can accommodate for.

Thanks for the replies. I just get frustrated that there is so much innovation and development in the industry yet a chunk of the market remains uncatered.

Or your coworker could always go with an eGo One.

Joyetech eGo ONE

If she goes small with the 1100 mAh battery, it is pretty small. Going a bit larger, she can go with the 2200 mAh battery and double the battery life. It will subohm, so she can blow major clouds.

Right now she can get the 2200 mAh eGo One for $39.95 by using the coupon code APRILEGODEAL at eCig Avenue, which is $5 off of their regular price.

I can't help with suggestions because I'm out of the loop with the smaller gear. I will say that today it's impossible to get the run time of a 18650 in a smaller battery.

The good news is that once she 'gets it' she may go through the 4 stages of vaping and there will not be any more issues :)

Enjoy.

I feel like this video was custom made in response to this thread :p
Thanks for that

...more vapor...

I guess I was Lucky.

Because I switched to e-Cigarettes using a RN4081. Which is/was Smaller than a 510 "Pen Style" e-Cigarette.

The only device I know of that has a very elegant look is the mig cig. They are regulated to 4.2 volts for the life of the battery's charge. They have a choice of manual (has a button) and automatic battery. They are a bit pricey and will cost more in the long run but I've seen positive reviews on them.

I think a person needs to get over the fact that their device looks odd at first. Any mechanical device will look odd compared to a cigarette. I know I felt a bit weird vaping in public at first but now I take my iStick/Nautilus with me and vape openly.
