2. Gum, lozenges, cold turkey...nothing replicated smoking, but some helped me cut back.
3. 2 years
4. no
5. Better breathing, sense of smell, better sleeping habits...no increase in weight or appetite.
6. yes
7. Certainly a better cessation device...is it safer...no way of knowing...doubt it's actually safer than gums/lozenges...but certainly safer than smoking.
8. At my age, just quitting smoking is good enough. Would I also like to quit ecigs...yes. Will I ever quit vaping...probably not. I'm not actively looking to quit vaping.
9. Within reason perhaps...like ingredient labels, child proof caps...sanitation standards. Problem is letting the camel get his nose through the tent flap. I would rather they just stay out of it.

2. Hmm, cold turkey, patch, Welbutrin, probably some others.

I didn't really want to quit smoking. I was mainly being guilt-tripped into it and all that did, really, was breed resentment and a stronger desire not to quit. The products just didn't work well enough to overcome that resentment. Also, they did not address the habit/social aspects of smoking or triggers that set off cravings.

3. About 1-1/2 months now

4. No

5. I can breathe better now, my sense of smell is returning - I came home the other day and for the first time realized how bad I have been making the house smell. Taste is taking a bit longer.

6. Yes, at least until I can dial the nicotine down to 0 mg, and after that? Dunno. I am really enjoying this, and if it's still recognized as that much better for my health, I'm not sure I see any reason to give it up. I love all the fabulous flavors available!

7. I definitely think they're a safer alternative. And they made it possible for me to kick cigarettes, so for me at least, they've worked as a smoking cessation device.

8. I might eventually, but it's still too soon for me to know whether I might want to give them up altogether in the future. If later research shows that they're relatively safe, I don't see any reason to. And anyway, right now they're just too much fun/tasty to let go!

9. I would say yes if I thought the FDA had a lick of sense, but the anti-smoking hysteria is so strong and Big Tobacco/pharmaceutical companies have such a firm grasp on the various powers that be that I can't trust the FDA to regulate based solely on medical grounds and not hysteria. So no, they should keep their hands off.

2. Quit one time cold turkey, lasted about 6 months.
-Eventually, stress caused me to return to smoking.

3. 17 months

4. Nope, no desire to smoke again

5. Breathing is clear, no stinky breath or clothes, and that nagging little chest pain is gone

6. I have stopped smoking completely

7. Most likely a safer alternative, I guess time will tell

8. I think I would to stop altogether someday, but I'm in no hurry because I truly enjoy vaping.

9. Other than keeping it away from children and maybe some basic regulations on ingredients and cleanliness of labs, NO.

1. How long have you used cigarettes/cigars/chewing tobacco etc?

38 years

2. Before vaping, have you tried other methods of quitting? Gum/patch/medications/cold turkey etc?
-If you tried other methods to quit, why do you think you continued to use tobacco products?\

Over the years I have tried cold turkey, gum, patch, hypnosis. I continued to smoke because none of these relieved my cravings.

3. How long have you used an ecig?

14 months

4. Do you continue to use tobacco products?
-If so, how much? ex.. regularly but less, when drinking/socializing, special occasions.

Nope. Stopped smoking the day I started vaping.

5. Have you noticed a difference in your health (breathing, smell, taste) since using ecigs?

Sense of smell and taste returned, I no longer wheeze at night, and my constant smoker's cough is gone.

6. If you quit smoking altogether and switched to ecigs, do you think you would continue to use ecigs?

Yes, I will continue to use e-cigs for the foreseeable future.

7. Do you feel that ecigs are like the gum/patches etc in the form as a smoking cessation device or just a safer alternative?

I see it as a safer alternative.

8. Do you feel that eventually you would want to stop using ecigs altogether?
-Please explain why yes or no.

No. I enjoy it and haven't see any good reason to stop.

9. Do you feel that ecigs should be FDA regulated to be a safer product?

No. It's safe enough already. Not sure what they could do to improve it. And FDA regulation as currently proposed would not make it any safer. The cigarettes that they currently regulate are not any safer - they are the same exact product they were before regulation. They have not made them any safer, they have only made it harder to introduce a new cigarette into the market. This whole "FDA regulation = safety" is a false premise.

Hello Everyone! I am doing a research paper for school on ecigs and the FDA involvement and I wanted to post a survey to use in my paper. Any responses are appreciated! They can be as long or as short as you want.... any additional info would be great! Thank you.

1. How long have you used cigarettes/cigars/chewing tobacco etc?

43 years, 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day

2. Before vaping, have you tried other methods of quitting? Gum/patch/medications/cold turkey etc?
-If you tried other methods to quit, why do you think you continued to use tobacco products?

Cold Turkey (never made it past a week), Patch (severe skin issues), Gum (made close to a year, but it just didn't cut it when I hit stress), Buproprion (no help with smoking, but good success as an antidepressant), Lozenges (pretty much the same as gum, but kept using them afterwards for situations where I couldn't smoke), Chantix (Now there is a dangerous drug, didn't make it for a week before I knew that it was literally driving me crazy), and then three months in hospitals (totally unrelated to smoking) when I lit up as soon as I got in the car on the way home.

Stressful situations always started me smoking again, but three months into vaping our house burned dow, had to live in motels, find a new house, refurnish it, etc. an did not start smoking again.

3. How long have you used an ecig?

10 months

4. Do you continue to use tobacco products?
-If so, how much? ex.. regularly but less, when drinking/socializing, special occasions.

No, did for the first couple of weeks, but raised my nicotine level and stopped completely.

5. Have you noticed a difference in your health (breathing, smell, taste) since using ecigs?

Yes, as have my doctors.

6. If you quit smoking altogether and switched to ecigs, do you think you would continue to use ecigs?

Yes, I enjoy nicotine.

7. Do you feel that ecigs are like the gum/patches etc in the form as a smoking cessation device or just a safer alternative?

For me they were much better for smoking cessation, but since I have no intention of quitting vaping I suppose that they would be considered y some as "just" a safer alternative.

8. Do you feel that eventually you would want to stop using ecigs altogether?
-Please explain why yes or no.

No. As stated above, I enjoy the nicotine. I also intend to keep drinking coffee and eating food for flavor, not just nutrition.:D

9. Do you feel that ecigs should be FDA regulated to be a safer product?

Only for age restriction, and to require ingredient listing for the liquid.

1. How long have you used cigarettes/cigars/chewing tobacco etc?

About 15.5 years with a couple weeks or a few months off.

2. Before vaping, have you tried other methods of quitting? Gum/patch/medications/cold turkey etc?
-If you tried other methods to quit, why do you think you continued to use tobacco products?

Gum, lozenges, cold turkey, other tobacco products, I continued since they were not satisfying and didn't give the same feeling needed to stop using tobacco.

3. How long have you used an ecig?

5 years plus on and off but out of the last 15 months I smoked 2 of those months but haven't had a cigarette in over 8 months.

4. Do you continue to use tobacco products?
-If so, how much? ex.. regularly but less, when drinking/socializing, special occasions.

No, I can't stand the smell of smoke.

5. Have you noticed a difference in your health (breathing, smell, taste) since using ecigs?

I can breathe much better, I can smell cigarette smoke and now know it was an offensive odor, and I can taste again and can't believe I thought certain foods tasted good.

6. If you quit smoking altogether and switched to ecigs, do you think you would continue to use ecigs?

I quit and moved on from e cigs to variable voltage pens to regulated mods and now mechanical mods, and I will continue until I get my level down to 0 mg of nicotine.

7. Do you feel that ecigs are like the gum/patches etc in the form as a smoking cessation device or just a safer alternative?

I think they are more effective and helped many people quit or at least cut down on smoking cigarettes.

8. Do you feel that eventually you would want to stop using ecigs altogether?
-Please explain why yes or no.

Someday

9. Do you feel that ecigs should be FDA regulated to be a safer product?

Yes, but for age restrictions, and quality of ingredients used in e liquid especially those coming from China and the one's with food coloring.

1. How long have you used cigarettes/cigars/chewing tobacco etc? 35 years

2. Before vaping, have you tried other methods of quitting? Gum/patch/medications/cold turkey etc? Yes, patch, gum, inhaler, Wellbutrin, Chantix
-If you tried other methods to quit, why do you think you continued to use tobacco products? I'm also addicted to inhaling/exhaling, and either had nasty side effects or found the delivery system ineffective.

3. How long have you used an ecig? Since March 6, 2014

4. Do you continue to use tobacco products? No
-If so, how much? ex.. regularly but less, when drinking/socializing, special occasions.

5. Have you noticed a difference in your health (breathing, smell, taste) since using ecigs? My teeth are much cleaner and sense of smell is improving.

6. If you quit smoking altogether and switched to ecigs, do you think you would continue to use ecigs? Definitely

7. Do you feel that ecigs are like the gum/patches etc in the form as a smoking cessation device or just a safer alternative? They are definitely effective for smoking cessation.

8. Do you feel that eventually you would want to stop using ecigs altogether? I'm not sure yet.
-Please explain why yes or no.

9. Do you feel that ecigs should be FDA regulated to be a safer product? Absolutely not! They are not a tobacco product.

2. I tried cold turkey and gums. Neither took away the craving. For me I think its more of an oral/timeout/relaxation thing.

3. On and off 6 months. Since I got a Kayfun & Nemesis 4 weeks.

4. I was smoking 1 pack a day when I started with the Kayfun & nemesis. Other e-cigs had too many problems for me previously. Any how, first week I smoked a whole pack. Second week I smoked one cig, 3rd and 4 the week I didn't smoke and cigs. I do, however, still smoke cigars. More for the taste than anything. Those I don't inhale.

5. I've always had a good sense of smell, but it has improved since not smoking cigs as much. Mostly bad smells though. Lol. My sinuses also don't bother me as much.

6. Yes. I don't know how long for though.

7. I feel they can be a safer alternative if you know what you are doing and do your due diligence. Also, patches and gums only address the nicotine intake part. Not any other habits linked to cig smoking.

8. Maybe. But I like them and currently pose a minimal if any health risk.

9. Some what. I would like to see some regulation on the juices, but nothing overly harsh. Typically you can't have it both ways. Perhaps take the same approach as alcohol. Manufactures can sell crap alcohol and its up to the consumer to decide. But different states regulate that differently as well. Overall I would prefer no regulation as that would impose a higher price, most likely a large tax and harsh enforcements.
