Hi, I just got a Eleaf istick TC100W with a kangertech subtank mini, and while i vape the resistance keeps going up. It should be around .70, but will go up to around .83 with some use. If i let it sit for a bit and unscrew the atomizer and screw it back in, it will go back down to .70. Is this normal??

are you using store bought coils or are you fitting your own on a RDTA/RDA/RTA ?

Perfectly normal,it will rise as it heats up a bit then drop back when it cools down.

If it's Kanthal coils then no, it isn't perfectly normal. More likely the mod won't even have enough sensitivity to measure such a small resistance change (0.00002 TCR value). If it's TC wire then yes the resistance will go up and some mods will show the rising resistance (some will continue to show the locked resistance).
There could be some contact problems, that can be in the atomizer if you're lucky or in solder joints in the mod if you're really unlucky.

Yeah, to me that much of a resistance jump (if you are using Kanthal, which I would think you would be with the drop in coils) doesn't sound right to me. I'd take the tank apart, check the seals, the posts, try it on another mod (if you have one) to see if it's the tank or the mod causing issues. Slight resistance changes can be normal, those don't sound normal. It could also be an electrical fault in the mod, although I'm not sure.

I might try taking it to a knowledgeable vape shop if you have one near you. They can help you isolate if it's the tank or the mod. If it continues to behave that way, I might consider warrantying the setup, if it's in warranty. I would be concerned. Normally I would think a loose post trap or something, but if it's happening with the drop in coils too, not so much.

Best of luck figuring it out, and I hope you find a solution.

Resistance going up is not much of a problem at that variance. Coil resistance tends to climb up with age and use.

The real problem would be if the resistance drops. This happened to me once. I was using dual coils with a total resistance of 0.6 ohm on a mech mod. I was vaping away and suddenly got a very harsh hit. Being quite unusual, I immediately stopped vaping and began diagnosing the problem. My first step was to measure the resistance on an ohm reader.

It was now reading 0.1 ohm. I took a closer look and re-tightened one of the screws on the RDA post that had loosened. I re-measured the coils and they were reading 0.6 ohm again.

This demonstrates why it is wise to build with a safe margin of safety. Had I used a lower build, the resistance could have dropped to 0.0 and been a hard short.

I had similar issues with a subtank mini on an istick 30watt a few years ago. I got tired of messing with it. First thing clean all contact points like where the coil screws in and the 510 pin on tank and the connector and pin on mod with alcohol. Then if that doesn't change anything try a different tank on your mod and if that acts normally the issue is probly the tank and guess what? Time to upgrade! Or just adjust wattage so you don't get burnt hits. If i remember right, the tc coils for subtank worked better for me.

Hi and welcome. No problem there; the difference is only .13Ω over the span. It is natural for resistance to rise as the coil heats and as it ages. All metals vary their resistance to current directly with temperature. The hotter they are, the higher the resistance. Letting it cool back down to room temp will lower it back to where it started. Also, as the coils age, the repeated expansion and contraction from the heat/cool cycle will "fatigue" the metal-- it will develop very fine cracks in the crystalline structure-- and this will also increase resistance.

Hello Uioer !.

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the contact pin on my Sigelei 100 watt plus. Just had to unscrew it a little to create a better contact with the tank pin.

Do you have another mod you can test your tank on ?.
