I want to rebuild a Phoenix 3ml 2.4 - 2.6 ohm tank and I am new to rewicking. I have been researching coil wire for a few days and have not been able to find a straight answer on whether to use resistance or no resistance wire for the coil. I would like to keep the ohms close to the original. If some one could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You're going to have to have at least some "resistance wire" as you say it. I think there are a couple of types and various grades of those. Also, some rebuildables use standard wire to connect to resistance wire (I think?). Anyway....I'd try looking/asking here: Rebuildable Atomizer Systems

I'm only posting since you didn't get an answer for 4 days... don't know if it's much help.

I think there's a ton of info in the modder's area where the gang builds their own atomizers too.

You'd need resistance wire - either nichrome or kanthal. I don't have the tank in question, but as a guestimate 34 AWG (0.16mm) or 35 AWG (0.143mm) Nichrome 80 wire should allow you to get close to the target resistance with a reasonable sized coil. Kanthal is slighly higher resistance for the same diameter compared to nichrome, so I'd err more towards the larger diameter with kanthal.

To tune the resistance you can add or reduce the number of turns of wire in the coil. To increase the resistance you add more turns of wire, to lower it use less. If you were aiming for a lower target resistance (say 1.5 ohms) then it would be sensible to use a thicker wire than I suggested above rather than have just a couple of turns of a thinner wire. This is because a very small coil using a couple of turns would concentrate the heat in a very small area and would tend to burn juice and burn itself out easily.
