For A Protank you should use something called NR-R-NR wire. The ends are made of silver now/low Resistance wire. If you use strait Resistance wire that rubber grommet at the bottom will be what you will be vaping. It will burn. If you want to do the rebuild think I'd go with a dripper for around home and use the protank on the road. If you want to rebuild the Protank head go here and you can buy premade hybrid wire. $4.62 Authentic Kanthal Nichrome Pre-made Welded Wires - NR-R-NR (100-Pack) 100-pack - 0.2mm*95m / 1.3ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Been a while since I've done a pro-tank
Depends on how fast you want the coils to glow, 26 gauge and you've pretty much got push button vapor that fast, and the thickness of the wire your not really loosing that much in the way of heating area.
30 gauge will be a slow to glow vape for you but a bit cooler, should be the same density however and it may do justice to some of the nuances in subtle flavors, the 1/16'th drill bit is a must though. Video's on youtube will help you with putting it all back together correctly so it fires without an issue.

I generally just use 28g kanthal for microcoils with cotton or plain wraps with silica depending on what I'm doing -- while steved5600 is right about the insulator, with a microcoil your legs don't get as hot. It can become an issue if you are looking to keep the coil around a long while or are bothering to dry-burn, in which case 30 gauge and non-resistance wires will hold up better. After your umpteenth time of rebuilding your insulators will wear out anyways, but you can find replacements online or ask here.

They're really a great way to start building!
