The reason I quit smoking and went to vaping was my shortness of breath. I have always been one to wheeze but after 35+ years of smoking my Doctor told me I was showing the beginning signs of Emphysema. I wanted to know if any of the long time smokers have experienced any level of restored lung function and how long did it take for them to notice it if so? I know my lungs will never be what they were 25 years ago. But I just haven't had the increased energy I feel I should have had.

I smoked for about 13-14 years and have quit and been vaping since Oct 12th 2013 and I can tell a difference in breathing. Doing things like going up stairs and such seems to be a lot easier and I don't get nearly as winded. How long have you been off the cigs for? I would think you'd notice a difference after a few weeks.

It took a while but I noticed an improvement in lung capacity at one year without smoking. As I'm approaching the two year mark I have a very noticeable increase in lung capacity. Glad I quit before developing COPD. Once COPD is diagnosed pulmonary rehabilitation may provide some improvement. Aerobic exercise can help. I know a bit about emphysema. It killed my mother. Emphysema is a degenerative disease that will continue to worsen even if smoking is stopped.

Sadly this is true. A few of my family members have Emphysema.
Sucker Dad: You can pick up an at home oxygen meter at a pharmacy or Wal-mart. Maybe try that and keep an eye on your oxygen levels.

I didn't have any bad lung effects before quitting smokes, I smoked for 40 years, man I'm old lol. That being said I have noticed one year into Vapeing I breath way way better and my stamina has improved greatly. I first noticed these changes about a month in, but progressively got better as well.

Best of luck OP. Happy Vapeing!

When did u last smoke analogs? I have been off a month, am 35 and smoked a pack and a half a day. While cleaning the shower today leaning all the way over, I had tons of oxygen and wasn't light headed and got it done with no issue. I know for a fact that would not have been the case, that's why the shower was so bad!

well for me i have always maintained general health (exercise regularly) but, i can keep up with my girlfriend now who is very big into cardio thats how i can tell hahahahah

I am almost 4 months in from 1-1.5 pad. I started smoking when I was 8. I know that sounds ridiculous but all my grandparents smoked and it was just too easy to snag grandpas lucky's. I am 45 now so you can do the math. I did cough all the time. That has cleared up, and for now I feel better but I still don't have the energy levels I think I should. I have great insurance so I should have my doc do a work up on me. I just hate to go because I am now 45 and I know the doc is going to give me THE EXAM.

I quit in October, and I can feel it. I can go up a flight of stairs with 6 bags of heavy vegetables and fruit and not be winded, I sleep a LOT better, I don't snore, and I can feel my energy levels rising.

Give it time, it will happen. Some people heal slower than others, age also has a lot to do with it.

Just get it over with. I lost my brother in law to colon cancer because he was the same way. If they catch that early, it's got a very high survival rate.

The energy levels have a lot to do with overall lifestyle, it will rise with healthier eating and regular exercise - are you working out at all?

I smoked a pack a day on average for 12-13 years. Towards the end I was having a lot of trouble taking deep breaths, still nothing could make me quit! Then I found vaping and the rest is history. I am breathing with no problems. I still worry that I went too far with the smoking sometimes, but with the way I'm recovering I'm just going to wait and see. Feels better every day.

If you get blood work done, they will do a PSA test. If you are not having any problems down there and no family history, the doc doesn't need to go there.
